marks on cheeks - oh my!

Post by patsy » Wed Nov 30, 2011 1:53 pm

I use Swift FX for Her without headgear. It is actually fairly comfortable. I am using the small "pads" that fold over the side as "cheek protection". I have been sleeping on my side and have impression marks on my cheeks for an hour or two. Any suggestions on avoiding this? Thanks!

Heavier side strap covers. Those little thin ones that come with the mask don't quite offer enough padding.
Especially for the cheek that is down and laying on the bed pillow.

If you are handy you can easily make your own with a little heavier fleece.
Or if you are like me and don't want to mess with it you can buy from Padacheeks. That is what I did and no longer have any strap marks on the cheek that is down on the bed pillow. I bought from Padacheeks last February and got the barrel cozy as well. I didn't want to mess with making them myself.

I use Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula for dry skin. Be careful, though... your coconut will smell like a coconut!! I found that Afta (Fresh-scent) removes my marks the quickest... though me being of the male persuasion. There are so many lotions on the market. Some can be quite expensive. I found that fleece increases my leak rate.

On days I know I need to be someplace and i'm worried about mask marks. I do the old barber trick with a REALLY HOT wet towel. (no small kids so our hot waters set a tiny bit higher) for 5 or so minutes after a exfoliating wash. Then a moistureizer. And often a moisturizer the night before. Good hydration matters too! The argument my docs nurse told me is that as we age we all know our skin loses elasticity. But we don't realize that we also tend to drink LESS Water. And alot more caffiene which is a slight diuretic.

I also added a couple of extra velcro pieces to my swift for her pads cause they don't like to stay on well. They like to slide over and dislodge a bit. causing more marks.
