I have it and my doctor has generally discouraged me from getting it scoped. I think I have had it for over 20 years. I never made the connection between GERD and my frequent bouts of bronchitis, and sinusitis and constant chronic cough from post nasal drip till May of 2008. Detailed in another post. I still need a self administered proton pump inhibitor but elevation of the head of my bed by 6 inches made the most amazing difference of all. I recommend it.

Yeah, I know they give that "I don't care what you do to me drug" like the colonoscopy I finally had done last January. I have been putting it off and when I mentioned getting it scheduled my doctor agreed since I had the food get stuck and it scared the hell out of me. Hurt really bad afterwards too. I wouldn't have requested it if I wasn't extremely concerned.
I can't swallow anything without pain right at the junction of the esophagus and stomach. Even liquids.
I know it isn't any big deal and I should do it before the holidays as my co pay goes up significantly in January but I want to save my money for Christmas. So I am planning on after first of the year.

I understand about wanting to save money... really, I do! But, hearing your doctor tell you that you are just fine will give you such peace of mind. Only suggesting this b/c you seem really concerned. I had it done last January, and the relief was enormous. Whatever you decide, keep us posted.

Interesting. Before apnea/CPAP, I never had instances of reflux. I could eat sausage pizza and wash it down with orange juice if I wanted to.
Now, I'm popping Zantac daily. Suppose it could be coincidence, but odd that I have had an opposite response.

Same thing here. Last month I had it everyday, and the first thing I thought was my ASV causing this? However it has seemed to gone away and haven't had any symptoms in a couple weeks now, so who knows. There was a time at first when I used to blame anything out of the ordinary on the machine. I think I still do that but to a lesser extent, since there is much more positive things happening than not.

It's possible Gerd and Apnea have something in common. But, Gerd and CPAP? Doesn't make any sense. I had mild Gerd before CPAP, and have it now. No better, no worse.

My thoughts....many people have reflux during the night. If the CPAP is forcing your throat open and causing air in the stomach, wouldn't it also push the reflux back down into your stomach?

Yes, I'm supposed to take 2 omeprazole daily (when I remember). Cpap use hasn't decreased the reflux. In addition, I gad hiatal hernia surgery which was supposed to reduce the acid reflux, but I haven't noticed any improvement.
