Last night was a gas!

Post by cpaptex » Fri Nov 25, 2011 1:32 pm

A couple of days ago, my CPAP machine for some reason kept raising the air pressure in my mask until it got to 17cm and the air started to flow into my mouth. The DME was closed yesterday and is closed today so I can't talk to them about what happened. Normally, it will ramp up to 10cm and not go above that level and 10cm feels just fine. But at 15, the air started to leak into my closed mouth and built up pressure until I had to release the balloon full of air in my mouth. I remember doing that several times while this was happening. The CPAP machine just kept ramping up and up over about a couple of hours until I "woke up" and realized what was happening and stopped the machine. I then restarted the unit and it and operated normally for the remaining duration of my sleep.

I don't know what to ask, other than "can the CPAP machine be defective"? There was no major leak in my nasal mask.

Thanks,
I'm getting better day by day. Few if any OA Events, mostly CAs and Hyponeas.

Looks like you have a Philips machine, but which one? What is your pressure set to? Have you made any changes to the pressures recently? What mask are you using? Others may have other questions before they can answer you.

Give us a hint. What are the pressure settings on your machine??

Have you looked at the data? Is your mask leaking? Are you drinking a lot of alcohol to celebrate the holiday (alcohol can worsen apnea)????

The Settings are 6-11cm, with 8.5cm as the starting point. I don't use the ramp feature.

The Settings were changed to start at 8.5 when I complained that 6.0 was too low. That was last week. I changed my equipment profile to text.
