my closed mouth fills with air
my closed mouth fills with air
While awake my closed mouth completely fills with air until I swallow it or blow it out. Can anyone explain what is happening and does it mean I'm doing something wrong? I know I must keep my mouth closed but how can Ido this while asleep. Is there a device that willkeep my mouth closed? Thank you.

You get a FF Mask so you can get the benefit of the treatment. Many people are given a nasal mask when they need a FF mask. It's cheaper from the point of the DME, more profit and if they are lucky you will buy the FF Mash from them, a win win except for you. Jim With a FF mask your cheeks may still fill with air but you will be treated.

I think we all have experienced that. Get used to holding your toungue back a bit and on the roof of your mouth. You can actually close the entry to your mouth and the air cant get in. Sounds like you could use a chinstrap also.

Re: my closed mouth fills with air
I wear full face masks a lot.
When the air pressure is equal on both the inside and the outside of my mouth, the puffy cheeks simply do not happen.
Some people say they can train their tongue to block the air from entering the mouth from the throat side.
This works for them--and maybe you. It sounds very simple, but I have not been able to do it.
You may try that; but don't beat yourself up if you need a full face mask.
Good luck. Have a pleasant and restful weekend.

Close your mouth with your tongue against the roof of your mouth. Breath through your nose.

This is exactly what I did. I will continue for a month or two with the chinstrap and then retest that I'm naturally keeping my tongue up against the roof of my mouth.ozze_dollar wrote:I think we all have experienced that. I should note that I wouldn't experience this when awake. Three times in the irst three weeks it woke me up. I think it was when I was turning in bed.

Re: my closed mouth fills with air
I found it easier to get my tongue to seal my mouth shut at first by doing this: purse my lips, blow out the air out of my mouth, then swallow. The swallowing gets my tongue in the right position. Depending on how your throat, mouth and tongue are shaped, getting your tongue in the right position actually creates a sort of suction thing that keeps the tongue in place. But yes, don't feel bad if you need a FFM. Many people do.

Sounds like you need a chinstrap. Well, I use pantyhose tied under my chin. Plus, I'm training my tongue to stick to the roof of my mouth. I love those times when I wake up and practically have to peel my tongue off the roof of my mouth. That feels like success to me. (Odd how my definition has changed over the years )

I wish I could do that--my dentist says I have a 'playful' tongue .
Maybe there's a connection.

The problems happen when you start dreaming of bugs and that tongue comes flying out.chunkyfrog wrote:I wish I could do that--my dentist says I have a 'playful' tongue .
