MSSQL Server Problem & Encore Pro

Post by snoozalot » Thu Feb 16, 2006 4:53 pm

After installing Encore Pro ( along with the MSSQL Server) I couldn't get my media players to run. I am using XP Pro, and Windows Media Player 10 and Real Player both crashed. It took me a long time to realize the connection between the cause and effect, but if I disable the Server, then the media players work. Any suggestions??

Also, the server starts up when XP loads, and I get the little icon in the lower left corner of the screen. I thought I could just keep the server from starting automatically, and just put a shortcut on the desktop to start it when I want to run Encore Pro, but I can't find a way to add a shortcut. It's not listed under "Programs" and right-clicking it doesn't give me an option for a shortcut. Do I even need to have this start with XP, or will Encore Pro start it when it needs it?

Thanks
Bob

have you tried using msconfig ?

start run msconfig then delete mssql from the start up list - I did this and don't have it starting on boot and don't have problems using encore pro and I actually no longer see the mssql icon in my tray

there are many other things you can delete from start up but beware - not everything

An easy way to stop the mssql server from starting on startup is to right click on the little server icon, then left click on the top (open SQL server manager), then uncheck the little box at lower left (auto start service when OS starts).

Thanks.

That took care of the problem.
