High Pulse rate

Post by Kody » Wed Nov 23, 2011 10:38 am

Just got a CMS50F Oximeter and noticed some strange pulse rates while sleeping. There appears to be a spike up to 100+ bpm after a couple hours of sleep that last for aprx. 25 min. I checked the encore viewer stats and there were no events going on while this was happening. I did notice that I woke up for a bathroom break at the end of the 25 min. I know these aren't the greatest Oximeters, so I was wondering if this is just a glitch? I have been dreaming A LOT lately, so would dreams cause the fluctuation in pulse rates? I've noticed this has happened a few other nights as well. Below is the results if anyone has any ideas on the subject it would be much appreciated.

Hi Kody,
The obvious thing to do is to look at your asv data for the night to see if there was something odd going on during that time.

Far as dreams or other causes...sorry, just don't know.

That is most likely an episode of atrial fibrillation or other arrhythmia.

Monitor for a few nights and see if there is a pattern. It could be a single occurrence.

No idea unless you dreamed you were running from a bear! Odd that your O2 didn't increase.

You may be right on this. Couple weeks ago, coincidentally while I was at the Sleep Dr. he noticed an irregular heart beat. Sent me for a EKG and he said it was only PAC's (early heart beat) and not to worry about it. Maybe that's it again, I'll just keep monitoring it in the meantime thanks.

My pulse rate went way up when the exhaust port was blocked by my old pillow. Just another possible cause. I have since cut out a cpap friendly shape pillow.
