Throwing off the Mask / Auto shutoff.

Post by jedimark » Sat Nov 19, 2011 3:49 am

Got woken up by my wife just after 7 this morning, arriving home from nightshift..

I had no mask on, and my machine was switched off, but I definitely remembered masking up.. so I grabbed my notebook and checked the SD card, and saw it switched off at 6:15am.. The leaks jumped from a reasonably flat 25 to a 37L/m around 5:45, but the machine was still registering breathing right up to cutoff at 6:15.

When I awoke, the hose was neatly rolled up on top of my machine (which is on the floor) and I sure as hell don't remember doing it.

I was a little weirded out, because Auto-Off is switched off, and the flow rate waveform cut out like it was properly shut down.. (I can't really reach the machine from my recliner to turn it off, without painful acrobatics)

Maybe a power outage did it? (Though I'd expect some kind of data corruption)

I'm not on any sleeping drugs, so I can't blame it on them, and my wife wasn't home. So I guess I've officially gone sleep crazy..

Is this kind of sleep crazy relatively normal after 8/9 months on CPAP?

I don't know if I'd call it normal(lol) but it isn't uncommon. At some point even people who don't have OSA do crazy things while sleeping. If it continues you'll need to figure out what happened and why, but don't let a one time thing bother you.
I know I have removed my mask(hybrid at the time) and found all the clips securely fastened in the a.m.. I tried and tried the next morning, but couldn't get the mask off without unclipping it. I remember a poster who took the mask and hose off the machine and found them placed in different areas of the room in the morning.

It's funny, the tricks your mind can play on you. One day at work, I almost panicked because I remembered something important I had to do. I went to do it, and found that I had already done it about two hours earlier. It really freaked me out! On the other hand, maybe you have elves in the house

On another topic, Noticing your avatar, do you play guitar?

Lots of people report taking their mask off in their sleep and not remembering it. Including turning the machine off, putting the hose away, etc.

I suspect a lot of people wake up, decide to take off the mask, fall back asleep, and don't remember it in the morning.

If we wake up in the middle of the night, do something and then go right back to sleep before we wake up fully, we may not remember waking up if we sleep a few more hours. People do this all the time turning their alarm clock, going back to sleep, and not remembering it.

Maybe you decided to get up, unmasked, and then decide to lay back down for "just a few minutes."

Must be.. still can't figure how, as getting out of my recliner is a challenge when fully concious..

The alternative is my 8yo daughter was pranking/trying to kill me...

I wonder what other silly things I'm doing in my sleep?
Me thinks it's time for an IR camera..

Sometimes the aliens forget to put everything back the way it was after the probing.

I knew there would be a rational explanation for everything!

Is your Machine set for auto shut off? Turn it off and you should get a mask alarm.

Auto-off is off.. which is why I was so confused..

But I should look into the mask alarm.. I think it's a seperate option. thanks for the reminder.

I think and maybe some one can corroborate, the PR1 doesn't stop working at least you put it OFF.

I remember we miss one night electricity for 0.5 hours. The next morning I noticed it only when I check the data. Yes, I was 0.5hours masked and with the machine OFF, hard to believe. When the electricity came back the machine started again and I never noticed it. We for sure are able to make weird things while sleeping.
