Regular Quattro vs Quattro FX

What's the difference. For me right now, a Quattro FX is running $100 more than the regular Quattro. I'm trying to think if I should just order the regular Quattro. Thoughts?

I have only used the regular Quattro; it took a while to get the leaks under control (finally got there w/mask liner + anti-leak strap from Padacheek). I've heard that people like the slightly smaller profile and lack of a forehead piece with the FX version, but I'm not sure that would warrant such a big price difference. Most full face masks are potentially leak monsters, I doubt the Quattro FX is an exception.

Maybe you could try out both either through Mask Trial Program at cpaplibrary.com or through DME where you can try different masks for 30 days and eventually keep the one you like better.

Paul, I read some of your posts and was wondering if you could post some detailed data from your machine. A low machine AHI means nothing if major leaks are present, I found that out the hard way. As far as masks I have both, the regular Quattro is much larger and has a strap and adjustable dial around the forehead. I think it stays in position better than the FX but I use the FX. Its smaller and more comfortable for me. Either one make sure you order a liner for the mask, makes both masks much more comfortable to wear and easier to clean.

i tried the quattro mirage and the ultra mirage and the liberty. then the FX became available and I find it so much more comfortable. Its lighter and smaller and does not sit on the bridge of your nose. i would definitely say the fx is more comfortable, but opinions on the forum seem to indicate that people either really like it or really do not like it. so you'll have to try. The DME is supposed to let you try it for 30 days during which time you can exchange/return it. Be sure to get a padacheek liner.

ive had leaks with the FX as the unit slides up the bridge of my nose. I've had success this last week by wrapping a piece of hald inch elastic under the chin, around the lower straps, and the ends wrapped four times around each other (not a knot). it makes a lot of difference, and the elastic just falls off when I loosen the lower straps and take the mask off. worth a try. plus a mask liner.

Tried the Quattro fx but could not stop the leaks. I keep coming back to the Quattro, because when it leaks it leaks at the chin, not into my eyes. It's as comfy as an old blanket with a Padacheek liner.

The FX is a good mask and I've never used the regular quattro, but I can confirm with the others that it does take a while to get it so it doesn't leak. If I were in your shoes, based on what I'm reading above I'd probably be going for the regular quattro as well. When you're tight I don't think it's that necessary that you gotta spend that extra hundred bucks. I'll bet you'd do real fine with the regular Q.

well, it's like buying shoes...I love New Balance and I have a friend who will only wear Nike....it has to work for you. I have consistently low leaks with the QFX, and when it leaks it's at "4:00" or "8:00" and not into my eyes. I broke my nose a few years ago and I am pretty sensitive about the bridge of my nose. for me, the QFX does not ride up and land there. I could not stand the forehead screw and nose bridge placement on the mirage and I did better on the ultra mirage but FOR Me the QFX is the best FFM so far.

The short answer is that the FX doesn't have a forehead pad. For some (like me) this doesn't work well because the destabilization caused by me moving a lot during sleep creates a ton of leaks. However, MANY folks here have used the FX and *have* tamed the leaks, so that's not an insurmountable problem =)

I found, after using both, that the forehead pad offered the extra stability I needed, so I have gone back to the Quattro. Your mileage may vary, so if you can get a sample from your DME to try out, that would be the best bet.
