The Completely Full Face Mask

Has anyone out there tried the mask the covers your ENTIRE face up to the forehead and down to the chin? Does it dry out your eyes terribly? My DME recommended it but I was a little intimidated.

Hi, I think you mean the "total" face mask, and apparently some people do think it leaks a lot but others are happy with it... masks are just to personal and need to be tried for yourself.. a 1,000 happy people won't help if it doesn't fit you well.

If it makes a good seal around your face, it could be very comfortable.
Something about the design actually makes the air seem very still inside the mask.
I wish it would have fit my face; but no such luck.

Out of curiosity I bought a FitLife Total Face Mask by Philips Respironics last year. Was the most comfortable full face mask I've ever tried. There was surprisingly no sensation of air blowing into my eyes when I opened them inside the mask. No feeling of air moving inside the mask at all.

If I had to use a full face mask all the time (I rarely need to) the "FitLife Total" would be the one I'd use. Wasn't leaky on me .... but, as with any mask, one person's leak proof dream of a mask can be another person's leaky worst nightmare.

Even though it worked better for me than any other FF mask I've tried (practically all of them) I haven't used it past a few nights of trying it out. My usual nasal pillows mask (and tape over my mouth) suits me much more comfortably for regular every night use. The FitLife Total is stashed away in case I ever have a cold with soooo much nasal congestion that I absolutely need to breathe through my mouth. Fortunately, I go for years between colds that bad.

The older "Total" really covers the entire face up to the hairline, rather than to just above the eyebrows which is where the FitLife ends at the top.
One of the reviews for the old "Total Face" mask was funny...
"The mask moves a lot and I found myself forever playing with the straps in an effort to moderate leaks – it is like trying to herd cats. On the plus side if you crank up the air pressure you can perform a convincing reenactment of the sounds that would most likely be heard in the porta-potty line at the national baked bean and chili eating contest."

Yes... me and Mary Z use the total face mask. I was talking to the nice lady at cpap.com a few months back and there has been a big demand for the fitlife. As was stated... masks are personal and what I like, other folks may not like. I am a severe mouth breather and the full face won't seal under my cheeks. It also did away with the blisters inside and outside the nose. I recogmend that with any new mask, folks try it on at the DME, hook up a cpap machine that is set at your pressure and see if you can manage the leaks at the DME office along with getting some idea what comfort level the mask can offer.
