Sleep studies

Post by Hawthorne » Wed Feb 15, 2006 5:52 am

How often should a person with OSA go through a sleep study? I have been on CPAP for 3 years and have not had a repeat study but wondered if I should. I don't want to and the doctors have not said it was necessary but I though I would ask the experts here. Another questions - with an auto pap, are regular sleep studies necessary?

Its not necessary to have a sleep study unless you have had anything significant going on with either weight loss/gain, nasal or throat surgery since your last study. Some will have studies performed again after a large weight loss to see if that has improved/lowered the apnea index and in some cases for insurance purposes another study will be required to continue covering the cost of supplies.

If you feel like what you are currently using is still working fine for you then I would think it is needed. But that is just my opinion.
