Higher AHI with new mask

Post by joelrk35 » Tue Nov 08, 2011 4:46 pm

I recently switched from a Quattro FX to a RespCare Hybrid as I am having cataract surgery and wanted a mask that wouldn't be near my eyes. With the Quattro FX my AHI averaged 1.7 (range 0.3 to 2.9) over a two month period. I switched to the Hybrid and over the last month my AHI averaged 3.5 with a range of 1 to 9. Leaks on the hybrid were all within the allowable range i.e. less than 24 l/min however the leaks on the Quattro were almost 0. I did notice a slight increase in 95th percentile pressure on the Hybrid from an average of 10.0 to 11.5. Can't figure out why the wide range in AHI or the increase in pressure. Anybody have any ideas?

How soon is your surgery? Can you switch mskd back and see if the AHI reverses? Good luck with yor surgery.

I'm not sure if you need to do this, but do you need to adjust anything on the unit for hybrid? I know on my S9 I think you can set it for nasal or FFM in the settings.

On a side note, I recently switched to a new mask of the same brand model (just a new mask, vs the one I have been using). I noticed my AHI go up to and I think that's just the mask breaking in if you will. I have been flipping back and forth between the two and the AHI jumps on the new, goes down on the old like clockwork.
