Help w/time change & rescan3.14!

Post by Oldern » Sun Nov 06, 2011 9:15 am

VPAP Adapt SV, 1.5 years on therapy. Machine was replaced in Jan 2011. Uploading data to check time (DST was not automatically changed) I started to reset time (approximately 50 minutes) and received notice that data may be erased if I did. I elected not to change time this morning at 7:50 local CST. I'm accessing the machine again to see if it automatically changed the DST. (Not changed as of 9:14 local CST) Anybody know if if DST change is automatic and/or when the change is effective? Would you opt to change the time in spite of the warning that data may be lost?

2nd problem: ResScan reported about 15 days ago that there is no detailed data earlier than 2 weeks ago. (I had scads of detailed data before. I normally elect to discard duplicate summary data when ResScan informs me there is such data. At least once I decided to override the existing data. Could that possibly have triggered the loss of data? Do you know if the detailed data still resides on the machine and perhaps my version of ResScan is corrupted and/or needs to be re-installed?

As you might guess, I haven't made a backup of my file since the new machine in January. I did create and save several reports (pdf) but these can't replace having access to the detailed data for this entire year.

I can provide additional info if that will help. You can contact me PM if that will help. Any advice (or direction) as usual will be greatly appreciated.

OldErn

The ResMed machines will NOT automatically adjust for DST. Some discussion here on best way/time to manually change the time.
viewtopic/t70485/Daylight-Savings-time-and-the-S9.html

Regarding missing data I will defer to ResMed users. I do believe that high definition detailed data is only stored for 7 days and as 8 day rolls around the oldest will drop off. What constitutes high definition I am not sure..flow is one piece though.

Thanks for both responses. To the first, it looks like tomorrow is suggested for setting the time, all other things being equal. I need to reread the comments again, though.

Thanks second response. I haven't had a chance to read your reference but I certainly will.

I continued to get the "detailed" data until recently when suddenly almost ten months disappeared There may be some time limit but if that is the case, the beginning days should roll off rather than wiping out all accumulated detailed data. Having a b/u file would help but you can't seamlessly review data over time when it is in two files.

I'm thinking about reinstalling ResScan 3.14 also and am hoping for a comment in that regard.

Thanks so much.

Later,
Oldern

If you always click on "yes" to save all changes before quitting ResScan, your data should be there. Do you always use the same patient file? Maybe the preferences were changed to show only 14 days of data? I'll poke around in ResScan later and post back if anything appears obvious.

Uploading direct to my computer I could capture detailed data for up to 3 days, meaning I had to upload every 3 days to get all the detailed data. Once it was uploaded it appeared continuously in the reports, meaning that I had detailed data for days and days from about 1/1/11 when I got a new machine and depending on how frequently I uploaded. If I used the ResLink or a smart card, I believe the uploads don't have to be as frequent.

There is an option to make your data selection method default, meaning that if you want detailed data everytime, it can be made your choice and the download proceeds accordingly. This is my default data selection method. I am informed frequently during the download that duplicate summary data exists for a certain day or days and asks whether I want to override or discard. As a rule,I would elect to discard but I do remember at least one occasion, I elected to overwrite. A caveat appears to the effect that "all duplicate" data will be overridden or discarded. I never found out what this means.

I am using a "null modem cable" supposedly compatible with ResMed's product. I went thru some trials and tribulations getting my downloads to work because of an apparent conflict with the drivers or the program from APC and its UPS. I finally got it leveled out where the download generally proceeds uninterrupted.

I did download version 3.14-I thought I had earlier but I was using 4.13. At this point, I don't know of any differences and my program seemed to have been working OK. So, I suppose my detailed data is "lost", in spite of the fact I had saved the files fairly consistently after each download. I now have detailed data for 13 days out of the lst 15-20.

I'm still at a loss as to why the detailed data disappeared.

If anyone can direct me to more info about the program, I would appreciate it. I have the user manual for 4.13 and the clinician's manual from resmed.

When you upload data to ResScan, your selection should be "All summary and detailed data". If you get a message asking what to do for duplicate data for some dates, select "Discard" so it will only upload data for dates that there aren't already data saved.

Before you quit, click "yes" to save all changes. If you didn't click "yes", I imagine that ResScan would not save the data uploaded during that session.

Have a look at the tutorial for more help in using ResScan:

I follow what you are saying and as I mentioned, my download election, a default election, has been to download "All data" . This could be the wrong option but it has downloaded detailed and summary data for months. I'm pretty sure I have watched the tutorial as well. I appreciate your references. I tried to contact ResMed a couple of times but without any luck whatsoever.

In the beginning, July of last year, I did maintain a couple of backup files. But my machine conked out in December and it was replaced. Since that time, I maintained only one file (shud have had a b/u, shame on me) and was downloading quite frequently.

I wonder if anyone knows how many days of data the program will maintain and report on. One year, six months? I would imagine there is some inherent limitation.

It's obvious to me, the program in its current stage of development is not designed to please a large base of users. I suspect over time this will change as patients become "official" users.

Based on the comments in the blog referenced earlier, I changed the time on my machine today, Monday. There was a reference to the day after the officlal changeover from daylight savings time to "regular" time.

At any rate, thanks for your comments, as I appreciate every morsel of information about this program. If you can think of anything else, please get back.

Don't hold your breath on this happening. ResScan is designed for DME and doctor offices use, not for patient use and they consider the DME or doctor their customer and not the patient. We aren't supposed to be smart enough to even understand this software.

I don't think there is any limit to how much data (number of days) you can save to your hard drive in your patient file in Rescan.

There are limits to how much will be stored on the card; I think I have read that the card will contain the last 30 days of detailed data at any one time and all of your summary data (compliance, averages, etc.).

Pugsy, I should have said, “. . .will change 'if' and as patients become 'official' users." It will probably happen though over time as more and more patients demand access to their information.

Randyj, I agree there is no limit to how much data (number of days) you can store on your hard drive-well, practically speaking anyway. I do imagine there is a limit as to how much can be accumulated on the machine itself-one year, two years depending in large part on how many days of “detailed data” you have created and/or captured. If the machine has an expected life of five years, that represents a lot of data. Do you erase the contents of the machine or do the days or months roll off as time passes? If you are able to keep adding new data to your data file on the computer, you will really have to be careful to avoid overwriting.

Oh well! Thanks for getting back with me.

Correction to previous message. I had ResScan v 3.13 now I have 3.14.

If, by chance, you selected "overwrite" at any time you downloaded the data I am quite sure all detail data older than 7 & 30 days got wiped out of Resscan. That's one reason why I always copy the files from the SD card to the PC before downloading into Resscan. Resscan is not fool proof by any means in this regard.

There are two sets of detail data. One is high resolution flow data and pressure data that is recorded 25 times/sec. There are only 7 days of this on the card. This is recorded 'round robin' method, i.e. the data of 8 days ago is overwritten by today's data. The high res pressure data isn't shown in Resscan as it really doesn't give a useful picture for therapy review. All the other data in the detail graphs, such as pressure, leak, and flow limitation, are recorded 1 time/2 seconds. There is 30 days of this data on the card, again recorded in round robin fashion.

The S9 machine stores in its own memory ONLY the summary data, and only for 365 days. The detail data is written to the SD card as it is generated, I think in one minute intervals. If there is no SD card in the machine no detail data is recorded, period.

If you had copied all the data from the card to a folder on the PC you could rebuild your file. Resscan is not real particular about the data on the SD card having been copied back to the card as long as it's in the correct folder and the crc files are there. The card has to have been formatted in the S9 and the summary data written to by the S9. You might be able to overwrite the summary file with the PC but I'm not sure. The files in the DATALOG folder can just be copied back by the PC. The S9 absolutely insists on having cards that have been written ONLY by the S9.

A file recovery program like WinHex or File Scavenger may be able to recover a lot of your rlk files. I think you could just put them back into your patient folder and see them again in Resscan.
