fisher & Paykel mask, comfortable but deadly. Air cut of

My doctor suggested I use a Fisher & Paykel 431 full face mask.
It's very comfortable but I am having one very big problem with it.
At certain points during the night it seems that the air is cutting off. I can't tell whether this is happening at the machine or something inside the mask itself is making it so I can't breathe... the reason I can't tell of course, is I'm asleep. I find myself gasping for breath... and this is not my ordinary sleep apnea. I'm sure of that because it hasn't happened with my other mask (resmed full face (i.e. mid chin)) and it doesn't happen with the Fisher & Paykel mask if I wear it "incorrectly" that is to say with the mask at mid-chin, not under chin the way it is designed to be worn.

I am using a remstar machine with the pressure setting 7.

Thats a pretty scary title for your topic. Claiming the F&P 431 is "deadly" is probably not a prudent move in our over-zealous litigious society.

I like the F&P 431 ffm. I used it as intended, cupped under my chin. I have experienced no problems with air cutting off. That would be a machine problem anyway, not a mask problem, wouldn't it?

It probably isn't the mask. The 431 has an anti-asphyxiation valve to prevent the outcome you fear.

I have two 431's and had no problems. Sounds like your machine is cycling off and on. Could be a power company glitch.
