Hi Slinky,
I just that I'd let you know that I agree...interesting article.

I'm a former scuba diver, just finished reading the book Shadow Diver's about the guys who found a U-boat sunk off the New Jersey Shore. Plus I'm a big fan of submarine movies like Hunt for Red October and Das Boot.

What surprised me about the article was that even now, with our modern technology and the huge size of modern submarines,,,that they can't normalize the internal environment better then they do.

I would have been a submariner back in the 60's when I joined the Navy but they felt I was too tall. Perhaps I didn't fit the psych profile either. Not nuts enough.

Hunt For Red October! Brings back memories!!!

Was flying back from LA, CA and there was a problem w/the air conditioning so we sat in the plane at the terminal while they worked on it. We backed out 3-4 times then went in again. Then they taxi us over to a hangar, FINALLY we get in line to take off. Had some good laughs at a BIG jet liner heading to HI followed by a small private jet, then another HUGE jetline followed by a small prop job, etc. etc. Anyway, FINALLY we take off.

Half way across the country I'm really into Red October. I'm at the section where they are just starting depth charging Red October - and we hit a rough spot and dropped several hundred feet!!!! Talk about your heart stopping! Some of the overhead 02 masks dropped down, a panel dropped down and hit a lady on the head, and a passenger had a possible heart attack. Let me tell you you could FEEL that jet take a giant leap forward as the pilot poured on the coal. Despite the late departure from LA we got to O'Hare early and there was no circling, they brought us right straight in. Never did learn how the lady w/the possible heart attack did. I hope she made it okay.

I haven't read Das Boot. I'll have to look for it. I do like the Clancy novels tho.

Slinky,
I hate getting delayed at airports. Do you remember when Bill Clinton delayed take-offs at an airport for hours while he got a haircut? (and perhaps trimmed elsewhere)

And then a scary flight while watching a tense movie?

Das Boot is a classic German U-boat movie made in early 80s. It's based on a book but I've only seen the movie which is German made with subtitles and is a very long and tense movie. Your AHIs will go up after seeing that movie...

But, yeah, I do remember the hair cut incident.

Interesting article. I wonder how much home CO2 levels rise when you heat the house with a wood or pellet stove during the winter. I am almost tempted to buy a CO2 monitor and find out.
