About a year ago, I read on these forums about a third party humidifier that was compatible with most brands of CPAP. The point which interested me was that it could provide cool moist air, and not heated moist air (which I hate). I also failed to make note of this information, since it had a unique nickname which was unforgettable.
Guess what, I've forgotten it. I couldn't find the old thread after quite a bit of searching here. Does anyone know the machine I'm thinking of? Or at least, could recommend a humidifier which doesn't heat the air?
Thanks!

Re: Third Party Humidifier
Are you referring to a passover humidifier?

Neither of those ring a bell, although I admit the name "Fisher * Paykel" is certainly unique. I want to say it has a nickname like "Zombie" or "The Alligator" or similar. Regardless of what I'm remembering, does any company make a humidifier that blows COOL, moist air? I have a couple of whole-room humidifiers that aren't heat-based (one is evaporative wick style, the other a rotating disc style). Their "output" is reasonably cool. Don't know if either of thse technologies would be suitable for a CPAP machine or not. I wouldn't mind an actually chilled/refrigerated mist even.

You can always put few ice cubes in the water chamber or even filled with ice cold water in passover .SleepyInSeoul wrote:I wouldn't mind an actually chilled/refrigerated mist even.

Rested Gal might know. If she doesn't I don't know who would. Might send her a PM and ask her.
She uses the F & P 150. I don't know if it would do what you want. It is certainly more versatile than the others.
Generally to get more moisture in the air we have to add some heat. Warm air simply holds more water than cold air.

Any form of unheated humidifier will blow air that's cooler than the air without the humidifier. Evaporating water absorbs heat from the air.SleepyInSeoul wrote:does any company make a humidifier that blows COOL, moist air?
The Respironics passover humidifier appears to be specially designed to put more water into the air without heat. It looks like it has baffles and a larger surface area than heated humidifiers. I suspect a special purpose passover humidifier like this will do a better choice of delivering unheated humidified air than a heated humidifier with the heat turned off.

Thanks for the tips. I wil PM Rested Gal as suggested. I also like the ice cube idea - simple and low-tech (and cheap). And I had just mentally blocked the notion of a passive, passover humidifier until archangel's very good explanation. I'll consider that as well (although with all those baffles it surely comes in a cleanable version).
