Mine represents how I react with little sleep. Many years ago I had Taz tattooed on my arm and use the name for everything that does not require my real name.

Mine is me. And my trusty telescope (or, as I like to call it, my "big, blue 10-incher"! ) Together, we do StarTalk astronomy programs for schools, scouts, the local Parks Dept, a couple of State Parks and pretty much anyone who will have us. My username is...um...my name.

For 5 years my husband and I were addicted to game, World of Warcraft.
We both deleted the game this past March/April. First summer in 6 years we actually took part in and enjoyed. *sigh*
My main character was Paladin (healer/ret) named Starlette. NOTE: She was an AWESOME healer back in the days of
Karahzan (sp???). Photo is really me.

WOW.....so to speak. I would never have guessed.Starlette wrote:For 5 years my husband and I were addicted to game, World of Warcraft.
My cycling partner was addicted to that game for years.
He has since quit, too. It affected his family life w/wife and kids.
I was really glad when he quit. I will have to see if he knows you.
My avatar is me doing what I love to do.

Re: O.T. Why your Avatar?
mine is from the TV series Lost In Space (its a bit too detailed perhaps for a small icon).
The Girl In Green eposode had the Robinsons in space. there was this alien woman who was hovering in space (no mask - get it?)
cooing the evil Doctor Smith through the windows. he did a space walk in his trance like state. (its a Siren myth thing, same as in latest Pirates of The Caribbean)
meaning? who knows. obviously the gear we primitives need vs something advanced that doesnt need it, even in space.
there's the allure of dream time, the hankering for peace.
theres a throw over the Pacific from an Australian to the US visa viz the space program (assuming it all really happened - I am a conspiracy theorist), given these forums are predominantly USA'ian. Stephen Baxter's hard science fiction and NASA 'what if's" and can do approaches that he specialises in are an influence.
there's the Jungian anima complex thing that Smiths state expressed (adolescent fantasy, 'mood disorder', Faustian complex)
mostly its the mask and dreamy thing.

Well, since it's Halloween, it only seems appropriate to use a scary avatar! I can't think of one more appropriate than the one I am using! 8^)

Re: O.T. Why your Avatar?
I originally used a photo of myself, although not a closeup. Then I posted about an experience with a doctor and some members replied blasting the hell out of my doctor and his assistant.
It was a thread I started and I was shocked to see several replies urging me to sue the specialist, write the HIPAA authorities, etc. My post was completely misunderstood and it looked like the damage was already done by the replies and could not be explained. Additionally, it would require revealing some parts of my health history that I don't want to reveal.
I have great respect for the specialist and he is a member of my community. Having used a photograph of myself for my avatar, I would have been horribly embarrassed if the specialist or one of his staff had seen the entirety of the thread and recognized me.
So I changed to a fictional avatar. I would be interested to know if many of you recognize the fictional character in my current avatar.
(BTW, No grudges held about that thread. I like for people to express passionate opinions. At some future point I would like to use a current photo of myself.)

I do. It's the main character in a rather famous film. I won't say who or what, as that would spoil the fun.VVV wrote:I would be interested to know if many of you recognize the fictional character in my current avatar.

I use a squirrel as my avatar because one day, when my OSA is under control, I hope to be bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.

The Avatar is me with my new hose and mask. I wondered how I would look.

Re: O.T. Why your Avatar?
The brilliant fool, Dr. Stranglove is my favorite character in one of my favorite films of all time. He also is in a whellchair, as I am, at least for right now.
More than just brilliant writing, Kubrick's film has an incredible cast, everyone giving the performance of their lives.
Echoing that thought, imho, most internet BBs require a cast of interesting, eccentric characters, saying whatever comes to their mind.
It's like improv theater, we all depend on each other to make the whole thing "work", so to speak.

I get your point - but you do not tell us "Why Your Avatar" ?,
given that it is a picture of one of the most revolting characters in English fiction.
cheers

scary? It reminds me of Yoda from Star Wars.(A wise Jedi night, his testicles in his hands he holds as he the universe contemplates)JohnBFisher wrote:Well, since it's Halloween, it only seems appropriate to use a scary avatar!
