Cleaning FX nasal pillows with alcohol

Post by squid13 » Fri Oct 28, 2011 4:01 pm

Does anyone clean there FX nasal pillows with alcohol? I was doing some research and this one engineer that worked with medical grade silicone said this. Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) can cause slight temporary swelling of the silicone, but as long as it is allowed to evaporate completely it will not deteriorate silicone. It seems this would be a good way to get all the oils from the face out of it.

I WOULDN'T !!! I don't think silicone and alcohol mix well...also...there is no need to do it. I little soap and water will be sufficient.

Maybe when I have one to spare I'll experiment with it. It would clean facial oil better than soap and water.

I just use very warm water and liquid hand soap. Of course I don't have very oily skin though and don't use the Lansinoh any more. I only wash them every 5 to 7 days. Color me lazy.

The key is to wash your face to get the oil off before you put on the mask. Get your face squeeky clean and you will eliminate leaks and have a cleaner mask.

I do wash every night before I insert the nasal pillows. I'm just curious cause I've read that Isopropyl Alcohol doesn't effect medical grade silicone when left to dry throughly. Just wondered if anybody has used it.

I'd try it as long as you have an extra. It's just a pillow. resmed said not you use vinegar too. It hasn't hurt.

I clean my mask with baby wipes each morning. I was told not to use alcohol pads (which I have for my insulin injections) on my mask -- period. Still, it would be interesting to try. . . . Wonder if you would need to do this for a week or more to see the effect of alcohol over time?
