OK, after about a year getting used to and experimenting with CPAP, I'm ready to try a doctor again.
My first experience about a year ago was with a guy that seemed knowledgeable, but I was appalled (and still am) at how clearly he was shilling an overpriced, underpowered CPAP machine and mask. They wanted $2000 for a machine that clearly lists at under $500, just as a scam to get the Ontario government to pick up half. Wonders of socialism. But I digress.
I think I've taken this as far as I can without some professional advice. Ideally a real doctor who actually looks at the data, not an intern who knows less than I do about it.
Any advice in the Toronto area?

You do know that it is a work day for many people? Why don't you wait until people get home before expecting someone to jump in with an answer?

*lol* - OK, so people are home!
Sorry - I just know when posts drift down off the first page, no one really looks.
Plus I'm really out of options and starting to look at all of the drastic surgeries in the US, but would love to have some local support.

If you're in T.O. you'll need a referral from your family doctor... you can't refer yourself (as far as I know, anyhow) so get back to the GP and ask for either a neurologist or pulmonologist who specialize in sleep disorders... any names I knew 15 yrs ago when I worked there are likely to be retired now and still would need referrals in any case. Good luck!

The first thing I would try in your place is to go back to your sleep doctor with all your data in hand and a list of specific questions. Yes he pushed an over priced brick but you can tell him you prefer to control your own therapy. If he won't work with you then ask for a referral. Since non of this will cost you anything it is worth a shot.

Re: Recommendations for Toronto-based sleep doctors?
My regular doctor is the one who led me to the scam guy. I like my regular doc, but mostly he's a nice guy who's willing to prescribe most of what I ask him to try. Apparently he wasn't a star in med school and all of the specialists he's referred me to have been sub-par.
In Ontario you need a referral to a specialist like a sleep doctor, but in my experience the system only really works if you do your research and know whom you want to be referred to. My family knows good docs in various areas, so mostly i use my regular doc to just do the referrals I ask him to.
Are there any residents of Ontario who are happy with their sleep docs?
