Question about mask causing face irritation

Post by jdsolid1 » Sun Oct 16, 2011 8:21 am

I have had my cpap for about 6 months and never had this problem till the last week or so. I have a nasal mask and I will wake up with irritation around my nose where the mask is (especially my upper lip). Sometimes it hurts to bad that I have to take the mask off. The only thing I have noticed that might be causing it is that is starting to get cold out and the air is prob. dryer. In return, my mask was always a little greasy from the oils on my face, and now it isnt so greasy. It was like the oils were lubricating the mask so it didnt hurt my skin. Any help would be appreciated.

Get yourself a tube of lansinoh...............it can be found in the baby isle at walmart for about $10 and lasts about a year.
It is pure lanolin and is used by nursing moms to keep their nipples supple...if its safe for new babes its safe for us. Just put a dab on your finger and rub it around your nares and on the sore spot every night prior to strapping up. Do not use vaseline or any other petroleum product as they will degrade the silicone on your mask.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

What is the make & model of this mask?

NOTE: this is exactly why cleaning your mask everyday can cause problems. The skins oils do serve a purpose. Also, IF the mask is moving due to an air leak or something else that can irritate the skin as can some cleaning soaps or water from condensation. Water moving repeatedly over the same surface will cause irritations.

You might get other ideas if people knew the make & model of the mask you are having troubles with. I Don't click on icons to find out what is there plus it has often times been changed with another mask so it is worth mentioning the make & model to avoid misunderstandings.
