?? about card reader

Post by Bellcrest » Fri Feb 10, 2006 1:34 pm

I looked at the 2factor site and was about to order card reader when I noticed that they are USB1.1 This is very old technology and slow.

Are there no USB2.0 versions available and is this the only reader that will read the smart card? I have a card reader that reads 12 different types of cards I was wondering if it would work.

your 12-in-one reader will not work.
USB1.1 is perfectly adequate for this purpose and if you have USB2.0 ports on your computer it will still work fine as it's designed to be backward compatible.

My guess is that your reader will, in fact, read the card (but I could be wrong). That still leaves the small matter of the Respironics driver which was written for the DT-3000/3500 card readers. Are you ready to write your own driver?

As for speed (sigh . . .), Encore Pro is not a particularly fast program anyway, so I normally just sit back and relax when I'm ready to download and view the sleep data.

Bill

Thanks for the info Yardbird and Nighthawkeye.

I guess I'll just suck it up and spend some more money for yet another gadget for my messy desk. LOL.

I'll probably be back with more questions once the card reader arrives and I install the software.

Really appreciate all the support on this board.

I didn't notice it was USB 1.1, That explains that I've noticed it's slow, but if you really like pain get a Serial. I don't know the data storage (K's) but it's probably a lot lower that a pen drive.

Too bad they couldn't have used a USB pin drive, but nothing is easy after all they didn't intend for us to use it anyway. I'm just thankful it works at all.

I got one of those! I have to download my oximeter data through the serial bus. It's kind of a slow race, but downloading the Smart Card and waiting for Encore Pro to generate its report takes longer than downloading the oximeter data.
