Colds and the CPAP?

Post by kishmc » Tue Jan 04, 2005 4:13 pm

Hi I am new to the site. I started using a CPAP about 18 months ago. The one question I have for the group is this, when I have a cold or my allergies are acting up I can not sleep with my mask on, so the defeats the rest when you have a cold to feel better idea because I am not sleeping well with out the mask. So are there an suggestions on what to do about this? Thanks for your input.

colds / alergies

Hi,

I have had two sinus surgeries whic has help a ton!!

I use Afrin to help get through colds / sinus infections. (NOTE you can only use this for three days. I used it for longer in college and found out that you do get addicted to it.)

I have also tried alternating sides and only using in one nostril...to go 4-5 days with some sucess.

Another thing I did discuss with my doctor was using vicks type liquid made for humidifiers. I use less than 1/2 capful for full humidifier using fisher paykel HC150...Others don't recomend it I guess but I have had good sucess with it...

good luck

Sometimes the nasal bandaids help me when my nose stops up. Also, I use Flonase prescribed by my doctor.
