Quieter Nasal Interface?

Post by slumberer » Thu Feb 09, 2006 5:12 pm

Does anyone know of a quieter nasal pillow interface than an Aura?

RG has always said that the Breeze is the quietest for her - but just barely below the sound of the Aura.

My Aura is very quiet. Like RG, I only hear a soft swoosh when inhaling. I have no exhaust noise at all. My husband can just barely hear it while he's wide awake.

My pressure is low.

Can you determine why or where yours is loud at? Are you sure you have no leaks around the pillows? A "stretchy piece of material" around that area will solve any leaking.

The inhalation sound of the Aura is much louder than the Breeze at my 13cm pressure level. I have them both but will never go back to the Breeze. I just can't roll about with the Breeze headgear.

If the Aura had the airflow and quietness of the Breeze it would be the perfect mask.

It is the inhalation and exhalation sounds that are loud, not the exhause ports, per se. The source of the sound seems to be coming in the narrowing of the tubing as the air approaches the nasal pillows; if I can get used to the Whoosh...in....Whoosh....out rhythm, I suppose all will be well. My EncorePro showed a great deal of leak but I suspect I was doing a bit of mouth breathing last night.

I have ordered the comfort curve from Respironics since it seems to be a bit quieter. Just like my search for a full face mask....try and see.

Breeze is quieter

My Breeze is the quietest. The Aura next, The Swift a distant third.

Comfort? Probably the Aura and the exhaust is up over my head. The Breeze and Swift are toward my wife when turned her way. Not good. The Breeze and Swift are both comfortable, but different. Cheek straps on Swift not as free as Aura and Breeze, but Breeze gives a rather rigid hook feel to the pillow support.

Overall, I like the Breeze and Aura about equally. The Swift is just too noisy...for me. But, if you don't mind the noise, it would be a good interface.

But, this topic was about noise, and the Breeze is the quietest.
