Comfort Lite - Binding Hose Swivel

Post by John Galt » Mon Feb 06, 2006 9:38 pm

I have used the Comfort Lite for 6 months. I have had to exchange my mask on 3 occasions because the hose swivel keeps binding ... it gets so tight that it won't swivel when I turn in my sleep. I contacted the manufacturer to ask if I should lubricate it and they have simply told me to exchange it. It is now happening again. Does anyone have a solution for this? Incidentally, I wash it with mild dish soap and water and that doesn't seem to be too harsh. Help ... my hose keeps trying to strangle me when I turn.

The Respironics rep told me that the problem is in the plastic that is used in the swivel. It seems that if both parts of the swivel are made from the same plastic, it tends to "stick" to itself. The new Comfort-Lite is supposed to address this by having different types of plastic in the two parts of the swivel with the intent that the two types of plastic will not be inclined to "stick."

When I received my last replacement, the plastic appeared to be different (a bit opaque instead of clear). Initially, it swiveled my better than the former product. But, within just a few weeks, the binding started again. I'm still looking for a solution.

Though you feel the mild dish dergent is just that mild, it may not be and eroding ever so slightly the plastic causing it to stick again.
It was recommend to me to use ivory or dreft both baby mild. I was told that anything else is too harsh.
Just a suggestion.
