My osa was downgraded from severe to mild from weight loss. Second sleep study did not even require cpap therapy. However, I still wake up every 2 hours on the dot. Also, I use a home oximeter once in while to monitor my saturation levels. My baseline is 95-96 with the lowest point being 92. However, it is still reporting alot of apnea events which would mean a 3% drop for more than 10 seconds. Is this something to worry about since my saturation levels are still pretty good?
Also, why do I still wake up every 2 hours on the dot?
Apnea Events
Re: Apnea Events
When you say you don't 'even' need cpap now due to weight loss - was a PSG done, or did the doctor just assume that because you lost weight it no longer would be needed? Losing weight does not usually mean you don't need therapy and you should get retested if that is what happened. As for your 2 hours - do you smoke? Is that the usual length of time you need between cigarettes? It wouldn't be the first time it's happened to people.

Re: Apnea Events
All your apneas are probably happening during the REM cycle. If sleeping with your cpap machine didn't bother you try sleeping with it again and see how you feel. After all you have been used to sleeping with much less then mild apnea for as long as it took you to lose weight.Axxel wrote:My osa was downgraded from severe to mild from weight loss. Try and get copies of your last sleep study and post them here.

Re: Apnea Events
Yes 2nd sleep study done a few months ago and cpap wasnt required. However, they were not able to tell me why I was still waking up so much and said to come back a second night and they would use a cpap on me even though my apnea was very mild now. I havent been able to afford another test yet.Julie wrote:When you say you don't 'even' need cpap now due to weight loss - was a PSG done, or did the doctor just assume that because you lost weight it no longer would be needed? No, I have never smoked.
Re: Apnea Events
I remember my tests showing I have alot of REM sleep and not enough deep sleep. Which makes sense because my whole life I have always had ALOT of dreams, which happen in REM and am able to recall most of them. Since im not having much deep sleep, would that mean apneas were happening during deep sleep?BlackSpinner wrote:All your apneas are probably happening during the REM cycle. I actually never became compliant with cpap. I tried it for a couple months and EVERY single night I take the mask off in my sleep so I gave up. Have no idea why I do that because the masks I have tried all feel very comfortable to me. I have however tried using my cpap recently after my osa was downgraded to mild, and I still wake up at the 2 hour point even while I had the cpap on. One idea is maybe the pressure is no longer high enough for me. My machine was set at 9 originally. But there would be no way to tell for sure unless I had a sleep study again and they tried cpap on me at some different pressures. Again though, I havent had the money for another study.
I do have copies of my last study. I can post them if you like. What would you look for in it?
