They should NOT be charging you for replacing the hose. It was THEIR fault for not doing "hands-on" teaching at the time they gave you the first machine.

As robysue said...they "showed" you, but didn't "teach" you.

Anyway, be sure the S9 they gave you (or will give you) does not have the word "Escape" on it. Be sure it has the word "Elite" written on it.

The S9 Escape CPAP is another bare bones cpap that gives "hours" only data.

The S9 Elite CPAP will provide the data you need if you want to monitor how effective your therapy is, and want to be sure leaks are not a problem.

You'll want a machine that can record leak and AHI info. The ones in blue do that; the ones in red do not:

To make it easier to take the rubber cuff of an air hose off a machine and put it back on, here's what I use... from the plumbing section of Lowe's:

That plumbing connector thingy won't work, however, if you're using a ResMed "ClimateLine" tube. Works only with regular or slimline tubes (air hoses) and with the Aussie heated hose.

We can agree to disagree on the hose teaching / showing issue. Frankly I'm of the belief that certain things appearing to be common sense (connecting/reconnecting a basic hose) shouldn't need a hand-holding.

I do know I should have done my research first. I happen to be a techie IT Sys Admin and a very detail obsessed one at that. I'm hearing impaired and have a few pairs of digital hearing aids that were all thoroughly researched and do precisely what I want. I just figured it would be nice to let the paid professionals help me this time rather than having to do a lot of the ground work myself. Wrong wrong wrong, as I learned.

Knowing my initial mistake, I made certain it would be the Elite or the AutoSet. Since I've not been prescribed Automatic CPAP, I naturally got the Elite. And that's fine, I don't see me needing an auto unit. I did just fine in the lab and again last night with the SleepEasy II's limited flex setting, so the S9 Elite's EPR should be more than sufficient for my needs.

Since you are getting the ResMed S9 Elite there is software available.

There are disposable ones out there that are utter crap and difficult to get on and off. If it looks like this, go get another one. Tell them to get you a standard hose.

I use this one, the hose comes out easily and keeps the hose straight.

Correct. I did not have the junk disposable hose.

I got that the ClimateLine. I'd actually like the slimline hose too so I'll have to order that. When I travel I will almost certainly not take the humidifier to cut down on space. I'll eventually buy a travel unit and leave the S9 at home.

I travel a great deal, including internationally so this will be an interesting experience. I'm well aware that regulations in the US require CPAP units not be counted against carry-on limits but foreign governments don't have the same rules. The UK is pretty good, from what I understand. I've followed the experiences of others on some popular frequent flier forums so I generally know which countries and airlines permit what.

Look next to the power switch on the top and make it says "Elite." You wouldn't be the first one who has had a DME sell an Escape to and claim it's an Elite.

If it's midnight and a DME tells you it's dark outside, go and check for yourself.
