I use distilled water, and once or twice a week I clean out the reservoir. I wash it out and then I put in a little gillette, red can foamy shave cream and then wash that all out and refill with distilled water. I absolutly love the smell of that shave cream and after washing it out it leaves a slight smell that to me is like heaven when I go to bed...so clean and fresh. :)

So you enjoy aerosolized petroleum distillate in your respiratory tract?

Maybe next time I will use a capful of tequila in my final rinse.

It does appear that distilled water is quite a bit more expensive down under. If you want to use tap water, just let it sit for a few hours before using.

It's not recommended to put any additives in the water. You can use any potable water except colored, flavored, or carbonated. However, distilled water is best. Purified water is the next best choice. Do not use any water that is unsafe to drink!

Someone stating an opinion or a fact that a person doesn't happen to agree with doesn't make them a troll no matter how snarky someone might think that comment was..

....and I didn't think that the comment in this case was anywhere near snarky.

Please...no more name calling.
Disagree with the message but no personal name calling attacks.
We can disagree with someone without calling that person an ugly name.

I happen to LOVE dihydrogen monoxide.
I'm soaking in it right now.

I've switched to using tap water in mine. It IS a hassle for some and has become onerous for me for various reasons (cost is not the issue). If your water smells chlorinated, try filling your water chamber when you get home from work. Chances are, that odor will have dissipated before you go to bed. If it is VERY strong, then get a bottle of distilled. After it is empty, fill it up in the am with tap water and it will have dissipated by evening, even with a cap on.

I rinse my chamber daily and let it dry. I've still not had any buildup after more than a month. It was topping off that was the real hassle for mineral buildup.

You've got the wrong 'software' picked in your profile.

Does pointing that out to you make ME a troll too?
