which auto machine to get
which auto machine to get
I am deciding between the PR system one and the resmed s9. Both seem to have good reviews. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Re: which auto machine to get
Both would serve you well. Both have easily obtainable software to use.
Respironics on screen data sucks but with the software you won't look at the screen anyway.
Are you purchasing out of pocket or is insurance and DME involved? If out of pocket and money is an issue the price for PR System One Auto with humidifier is $635 from cpap.com.
ResMed S9 Autoset with humidifier is $1072 from cpap.com.
If using insurance your out of pocket will probably be the same depending on your insurance as DME will likely bill either at a same fixed price but probably should confirm with DME first.
I use the PR S1 Auto. I do like the placement of the swivel fixture for the long hose to humidifier. S9 Attachment in the rear can put a bind in things but is not a huge problem.

Bottom line is they are both great machines, which both record state-of-the-art flow data. There has just been a discussion of these two machines at viewtopic/t68713/Resmed-S9-Augotset-or- ... AFlex.html
Re: which auto machine to get
This is through my insurance and DME. I have mostly met my out of pocket. I have app't tommorrow to consider the machines. My doctor didn't seem too keen on the auto but I would like that versatility. He agreed and said ok. My pressure is 10 on regular CPAP.

Re: which auto machine to get
If the 2 machines are available...take your favorite mask along and ask to test each machine.
They both have exhale relief but each goes about it in a different manner. You might like one way over another.
I have never had the chance to use a ResMed machine so I can't offer any comparison. A few people here have had a chance but not many. Most of us pipe in and vote for the machine we use because we like it. We don't know if we would like the other one any better.

For PRS1, say no to PLUS. Pro or Auto are good. AutoIQ is NOT!!! an auto CPAP. In theory, it's better than the PRO, but I still don't like it.
For S9, just say no to Escape and Escape Auto. Elite and AutoSet are good. DME's have been reported to try to confuse people into thinking Escape Auto is the same as AutoSet.
edit- of course, only PRS1 and S9 AutoSet are auto machines.

Is there a swivel attachment that can be purchased for the S9? I haven't heard anyone mention that.Pugsy wrote:I use the PR S1 Auto. I do like the placement of the swivel fixture for the long hose to humidifier. S9 Attachment in the rear can put a bind in things but is not a huge problem.

Re: which auto machine to get
HPM... I was in your shoes about a few weeks ago. Both are great machines. What I did was ask the DME to show me both models next to each other, and walk me through all the things they did. After I saw what they could and could not do, I made my decision.
I also found some great reviews of them on this site, and personally, it was hard to pick a winner "for me" until I saw them side by side. What was important for me may not be for you so, either one I think will serve you well. Just make sure you also look into mask types as that can be an even more important step as it sits on your face and can make your night sleep pleasant or miserable.

Listening in, since I want one of these as soon as I can get my grubby hands on one.

Re: which auto machine to get
Not that I am aware of. The PR S1 humidifier has the swivel thing as part of the unit and it is mounted on top and in the middle of the humidifier. So 360 degree swivel of the long hose from the top. Makes fiddling with hose less cumbersome.DoriC wrote: Is there a swivel attachment that can be purchased for the S9? I haven't heard anyone mention that.
S9 long hose attachment is in the rear like with Mike's M series machine. I don't know if there is some sort of attachment for it to allow more freedom of movement. There might be..I just haven't looked or thought about it.
Rear positioning for long hose is not that much of a problem anyway. I just got a nice surprise with the mobility of the new PR S1 humidifier. Maybe someone will know of such an attachment.

Re: which auto machine to get
The one thing I did not like about the S9 was that there was no easy way to clean the humidifier tank. The S1 comes apart easily and can be placed in the dishwasher if you want. The DME told me that the S9 did not come with a tank that you could take apart, but that there is one you can buy that does (LINK). I plan on getting one when I can.

Very useful input, as usual from this forum. I did go to the link on the recent discussion on this topic - most helpful. I feel like I'm doing my "homework" on this. Thanks "ya'll" I will go into my app't armed with information.

Re: which auto machine to get
1) Curse you ResMed for selling that crappy disposable tank to US buyers. I understand the rest of the world gets the cleanable tank.Perrybucsdad wrote:The DME told me that the S9 did not come with a tank that you could take apart
2) You actually can disassemble the disposable tank, but it's a pain. There's a youtube video of how to do it.

ResMed is the best, trust me, I'm not biased at all.
Ok, I'm lying. They are both great machines. It's just a matter of choosing which has the features that are most important to you.
Only the ResMed has the built in Heated Hose option, I keep hearing PRS1 is supposed to get it, but still haven't seen it.
As mentioned the PRS1 has a nicer swivel attachment on the humidifier.
The ResMed has a nice color screen, and the PRS1 screen and menu sucks, but realistically you won't care about either.
The PRS1 uses 12V making it easier for DIY battery back up. The ResMed is 24V, though you can buy a cigarette lighter adapter and battery pack off the shelf.
The 'official' software for ResMed is just a touch easier to get, but the open source alternatives for the PRS1 are getting good and you can get the PR software.
There are differences in EPR technology between the two (A-Flex vs EPR). I can't comment on which is really better though, just different.
Really, I think that about covers the major things, unless I'm forgetting something.

Nope, attachments of this kind would make it impossible to get electrical connections to the ClimateLine. Even if you ran wires, a swiveling head would twist them and tangle it up and break them. This fact makes me wonder what PR is planning when they roll out heated hoses.Pugsy wrote:I don't know if there is some sort of attachment for it to allow more freedom of movement.
