For those on the East Coast, at 7:30PM CBS has on "Advancing Medicine: Saving the Brain". It is sponsored by Hartford Hospital so may only be on in CT.

Thank you Gumby. It's important for us all to recognize stroke symptoms.

This is a good site, too. http://www.stroke.org/symp

Stroke symptoms include:

SUDDEN numbness or weakness of face, arm or leg - especially on one side of the body.
SUDDEN confusion, trouble speaking or understanding.
SUDDEN trouble seeing in one or both eyes.
SUDDEN trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination.
SUDDEN severe headache with no known cause.

Me knowing the symptoms of stroke let my dad die in the hospital surrounded by his kids rather than dying alone at home after lying on the floor for a night or two.

You are welcome, my friend.

Here is a wallet sized card to print out.

I learned it another way
S - ask person to SMILE - one side will be limp (lopsided)
T - TALK - ask to say a simple sentence - "The Sky is Blue". Words will be slurred. Or Stick out TONGUE - will go to one side.
R - Ask person to RAISE both arms. One will be weaker. Grip is also unequal.

It is SOOO important to know these signs of stroke!! It is just as important to speak up if you notice the signs of stroke, even if your not sure! When my Mom had a stroke it took me telling the ambulance crew(2 EMTs and a first responder), the Triage nurse in the ER, and 2 other nurses before one actually listened and did a quick stroke assessment. She immediately called a code gray and things started moving fast at that point. So speak up, and continue to do so until someone actually does an assessment!

The problem is that a migraine will show many similar patterns. Since many women get migraines as part of their menstrual cycle, we mostly blow off those symptoms when they come up.
