Quotations <the unexamined life is life not worth living> Socrates
When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive - to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love. -Marcus Aurelius
"The marvelous richness of human experience would lose something of rewarding joy if there were no limitations to overcome. The hilltop hour would not be half so wonderful if there were no dark valleys to traverse.” Helen Keller
Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?' -Martin Luther King, Jr.
Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter. -Martin Luther King, Jr.
"Wherever you are, whatever you do, be in love." - Rumi
Strange is our situation here on Earth. Each of us comes for a short visit, not knowing why, yet sometimes seeming to divine a purpose. From the standpoint of daily life, however, there is one thing we do know: that man is here for the sake of other men. —Albert Einstein
If people are good only because they fear punishment, and hope for reward, then we are a sorry lot indeed. -Albert Einstein
It is the first responsibility of every citizen to question authority. -Ben Franklin
I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. -Henry David Thoreau
You must be the change you wish to see in the world. -- Mahatma Gandhi
I want to stay as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center. -Kurt Vonnegut Jr.See More

I hope you won't mind if I share this with you. My 22yo granddaughter is doing a Peace Corps program in SA this year after graduation. She's teaching English to children and working with the parents in a little village with very few amenities. Her Mom(my daughter) sent me the above which was part of a difficult application process. 3 were accepted this year. Thanks for taking the time. Dori

Best of luck to your granddaughter. She is to be commended for her courageous decision to help those in need, in what may be difficult circumstances.

BTW, I hope both you and Mike are back to good health.

I was thinking of something similar, Blackspinner. Apples and trees, actually.
But I'm sure there's something in the air, anywhere Dori and Mike are, that gets transfered -- those kinds of "genes" aren't necessarily biological...

[quote="ozij" Apples and trees, actually.[/quote]

Haven't heard that in a long time... my father would say it all the time.

Thanks for those kind sentiments, I'm so happy to share my pride and joy with all of you. Now don't get me started on my other two!! BTW, speaking of "genes" and "apples and trees", this Grandma doesn't go anywhere that doesn't have a Marriott or Holiday Inn!!

Dori

How fortunate you are to see the fruit of the seeds you sowed when you were raising your daughter! What a splendid young woman your granddaughter is. Tell her "Vaya con Dios" from everyone here.
