new user feels beat up, still
Only been on this contraption for a week but still feeling beat up in the morning...is this going to go away soon or what? No problems with my mask or machine (!) so far
Re: new user feels beat up, still
How many hours of sleep a night (using the machine) are you getting?
Is your sleep fragmented (wake up often)? If so any reason why?
There can be any number of other reasons unrelated to sleep apnea that affect how we feel that the best cpap treatment in the world won't fix. Pain, meds, general health issues, insomnia, bed comfort, etc?
Your machine has data on the LED screen? What does it show?
And finally sometimes it just takes time for the therapy to work its magic. While some people see immediate remarkable improvement most of us don't and it can take weeks and months to see the improvement.
Sometimes we only see maybe one or 2 signs of improvement...like reduction in morning headaches or reduction in number of trips to pee during the night.
One week is way early in the treatment even if therapy is optimal to expect to see marked improvement for most people.

Some people see overnight results. I think for most of us it can take days, weeks, and even months before we're tip top. As pugsy mentioned there can be other things that affect our therapy that we need to look at and correct. Are you monitoring the software for your machine? Often, someone can think their mask is ok and then discover that there were leaks occuring that they were not aware of.
Thinking of quitting CPAP?
No problem, here's the first thing to do when you quit:
Advanced funeral planning. When you give up CPAP, you'll probably need it.

How come you are new user to cpap and using the ResMed S8 Auto Vantage?
There is some data available on the machine. If you can't see it the clinician manual will tell you how to get to it so you can see it.
Manual available here. http://www.apneaboard.com/CPAP%20Adjustment.htm just scroll down and follow directions.
There is easily obtained software but the S8 machines require an expensive and hard to find card reader.
When someone doesn't feel well on cpap I always suggest that they at least confirm that the therapy is optimal by looking at the data. It is a starting point. If therapy is not optimal for whatever reason...no amount of time will fix it.

Welcome!
I think it takes longer than a week, for most people, anyway. I'm at 2+ months and still trying to feel alert in the afternoon But keep at it! You're better of with it, even if it doesn't feel like it at first.

Re: new user feels beat up, still
I felt completey trashed several mornings when I began. Very discouraging, but I kept at it. Finally turned the corner when I got a different mask. Maybe the aroma therapy helps, but getting the right mask made a huge difference.
Getting used to having air driven down your nostrils isn't easy -- this is NOT normal human activity. Snoring IS normal, but it often comes with some terrible side effects. So, we have to do something very abnormal to stay healthy.
Keep working at getting used to this stuff. Keep asking your questions here, as there are many folks who really know what they are talking about.
Welcome to the club.

Did you really get an S8 AutoSet Vantage machine? Looks like this: https://www.cpap.com/productpage/1954PoppyPillow wrote:Only been on this contraption for a week but still feeling beat up in the morning...is this going to go away soon or what? No problems with my mask or machine (!) so far
How do you feel beat up? Sore chest, headache, feel like no sleep, tired, or what?
