Help! He won't wear his CPAP

My husband won't wear his CPAP. When I wake him to put it on, due to his excessive snoring, and keeping me awake, he claims he's not sleeping nor snoring! What's a poor wife to do?

Tell him that you love him and you dont know what you would do if he Died.

Withhold sex until he complys. Tell him you have a headache.

The only thing to do is try and educate him about OSA. Ask the sleep lab physician what your husband's lowest oxygen level was during the test and how dangerous this could be.
After working 12 years in the hospitals ER, I can tell you how many heart attack victims came in during the early morning hours. I'm sure that many of these heart problems were caused by apnea events at night(ie Reggie White the football player)

I don't know about the rest of you but since Reggie White's death, I've had alot of people come up to me and remark that they didn't realize how serious sleep apnea is. It's always been kind of a joke with my friends when they see the mask and all. Yeah, it's a joke right up until my boyfriend (who has a delightful sense of humor) tells them how scary it was to lay awake at night and listen to me not breathing.

I would bombard your husband with as much information about sleep apnea as you possibly can. Given the horrific surgical alternative to CPAP, I would think he'd be a little more willing to try the machine. As far as his arguing with you about the snoring, remind him that a pillow over his face for a few minutes will resolve that problem! (I'm kidding!!!!!)

When my girlfriend first talked to me about the possibility that I stopped breathing in my sleep, a couple of days later an article was in the local newspaper on the subject of sleep studies and sleep apnea. The company I worked for paid for me to have the sleep study done and I was diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea.

When I first got the cpap I felt constrained wearing it and I thought it restrictred my ability to cuddle my girlfriend when falling asleep. I didn't wear it much to start. The thing that got me to start wearing it was to stop being selfish and thinking about how it made me look and thinking I was a young man with an old man disease was something she said to me. She told me she did not want to wake up one morning and me be dead next to her, and even more important she did not want to be the one that had to tell my daughter and son that Daddy died in his sleep last night. You see I am a single parent of two teenagers now, 18 and 14, this conversation took place in 2000 and I have faithfully worn my snorkel (her nickname for it is snork, snork) since Nov 2000. I sleep like a baby and I do not get sleepy very often during the day. I do not wake up with headaches.

Most importantly though, I wake up!!!!

You tell him that I didn't think I was sleeping or snoring either when my wife told me the same thing. However, I was. Every reply is one he ought to read, and quit trying to be so damned stubborn. It can, and most likely will, kill him if he doesn't use his CPAP!!!!

dare i suggest tape him, put the tape on throughout the night. my friend did that with great results don't put up with it for the price of taping him.
then you could sleep on the sofa for 1 night put the tape with him in the bedroom, turn it up full blast & see how he feels in the morning. my friend did'nt do that but she played it back to him, he was shocked & she had great results, a cpap machine joined him in the bedroom
