I did not try a homemade one but the material in the pad-a-cheek is not T-shirt material its something else. I am sure you could find it at a fabric store. I could take it to hobby lobby and see what the closest thing is. Pad-a-cheek will send you one for under 20 bucks shipped and its well put together. Best $20 bucks I have spent so far on making my cpap more comfortable.

I would buy the liner before the strap. It seems odd that cloth would seal better than the silicone but it does. Its not a perfect seal with the cloth as you can see in my charts but makes the mask comfortable enough to wear 6-7 hours instead of 3. Its also nice not cleaning it every day (I am very lazy)
