Is anyone's sleep disorder so bad that they also take medication? I take buspirone to get to sleep and nuvigil to stay awake. Problem is, while nuvigil has worked for the last four months, I've exclusively used free samples during that time, because the pills are $400 per month. In less than a month, I'll have to start paying for my own pills. My insurance is crap, and while I'm middle class, I can hardly afford $3600 per year for ONE med. So, I don't qualify for any of the low-income programs (such as pparx). Cephalon (drug manufacturer) has a coupon program, but that would only reduce the cost (for me) to $350 per month.
Anybody out there with any ideas on how to get this drug at a reasonable price, legally?!

Anyone take Nuvigil?
Re: Anyone take Nuvigil?
I take it. I was given a "coupon card" at the dr office when first prescribed, supposedly from the pharma company that manufactured the drug so that for the first 12 months, I only had to pay $30 per month. Did your doctor give you anything like this? Maybe ask the doctor about it? He told me right off the bat how expensive it is....
A side note, I'm actually calling my doctor on Monday to talk to him about the side effects....at first it was wonderful. But then I started getting very anxious and weepy. I could cry very easily. The only thing that has changed in my life is taking this pill and since those are side effects, I have to assume it's from the drug. I take 150mg but often break it in half for 75mg because the higher the dose, the worse the anxiety. So I don't know if i'll be taking it much longer.
Best of luck!

Talk to your doctor and see if he thinks it would be a good idea for you to try Concerta instead. I had tried Nuvigil for a while but it did not work for me. And even if it had, I would be in your shoes and would not be able to afford the medication. Concerta is actually a stimulant for ADHD but is often used for Chronic Fatigue. It does NOT make you hyper but it is the ONLY thing that has helped me. I feel like a totally different person....alive again!! The best thing is is that there's a generic for it now and it only cost me $8 per month. It is worth checking out for sure.

You could try Provigil/Modafinil. The duration of action may be a bit shorter than Nuvigil (or not), but it's derived from the same molecule.

I don't think Provigil has a generic either and if I heard right, it won't for a while. Still really expensive.SleepingUgly wrote:You could try Provigil/Modafinil. The duration of action may be a bit shorter than Nuvigil (or not), but it's derived from the same molecule.

Re: Anyone take Nuvigil?
Google Nuvigil. There should be a coupon deal on the website. The coupon is good for a year I think, and I had to pay about $28 with me prescription insurance. Its been several months since it was discontinued by my Dr so I don't know if they still offer the coupon or not. Provigil is even more expensive because there were no coupons for it, buy check that website too to see if there are any on their website now.,
