Post by NightMonkey » Thu Sep 08, 2011 10:52 am

OVER 38% of all Europeans, or 165m people, suffered from a mental disorder in 2010, ...

But while we have the statistic in front of us, do you think big "social welfare" programs make for a happy population?

I didn't read the link. But ... if this thread's subject line is correct it just shows to go you how dangerous the mental health profession can be!!!

And has anyone been following the UK story of the family of 7 w/all but one obese child whose obese children are being taken away from the parents BECAUSE of the obesity of the children???!!! Now THERE is some SCAREY government!!!

It is called "child protection" because they believe that children's health is more important then some adult's hang up about government control.

It's actually Scotland that has taken four small children from their family because they were unable to lose enough weight, putting them in foster care and possibly up for adoption. And, while chubby, these kids are not that fat, from the photos I saw, at least. The kids came to the authorities' attention when a boy, falsely it turned out, accused his father of hitting him. The boy admitted his lie, but the social workers then zeroed in on the weight issue, placing an observer in the home and going to ridiculous lenghths to terrorize the family. Well, this is Scotland, run by a government that gave the Lockerbie Bomber "compassionate leave" from prison, so that he could return to a hero's welcome in Libya. Too bad that government can't show a little compassion here.

The linked article is not very clear, but the title of the actual study is The size and burden of mental disorders and other disorders of the brain in Europe 2010. If anyone wants to read it, the full text is here:
http://www.ecnp.eu/~/media/Files/ecnp/c ... eport.ashx

They've got sleep apnea listed under "sleep disorders", and I think they're probably including OSAS as a brain disorder because, untreated, OSA definitely impairs the function of the brain. I think the authors are aware that OSA does not have psychological cause. They also give statistics for stroke and multiple sclerosis.

LOL, and American spelling USED to annoy me, but now I've lived in the US for 13-years it doesn't bother me as much. I use American spelling in any formal or official correspondence, but all intnernal work emails I use Australian/British spelling and everywhere else (like here) I mix it up depending on my mood.

Does that make me multilingual with a mental disorder?

Cheers,
xena

If you don't think OSA is a mental disorder, just read some of the posts here...

(Even the ones in this thread!)

BlackSpinner you mean you would hand over your children to the government because they have a weight management problem? I don't believe it for a second.
