Where to buy mask

Post by cab78 » Wed Sep 07, 2011 1:16 pm

I have used a cpap machine for 15 years. I lost my health insurance 3 1/2 yrs. ago and now I need a new mask. Every place I try says I have to have a prescription. Crazy. I can go buy a gun without a prescription. The point is that I can't afford a dr. visit and a mask so I need to find someplace to buy one w/o prescription. Help, please. I am in Portland, Oregon

Gotta have a Rx to get the mask I'm afraid. If you still have the old one you can get cushions without a prescription.

I think it would be safe to suggest going online. Seems there's plenty of CPAP equipment at http://portland.craigslist.org/sss go there or your favorite local site and search for CPAP. Good luck.

Some have suggested that anyone authorized to write a prescription can write a prescription for CPAP supplies.
This might include walk-in urgent care centers, dentists, and perhaps nurse practitioners.
You would need to call ahead, explaining your situation, and make sure they can --and will--help you.

You could also try ebay - you will probably have to buy a mask part by part, but if you know what you're looking for it shouldn't be a problem. If your current mask is still ok, you might be able to get parts for it on ebay also.

Craisglist is another option.

Cheers,
