sore throat
sore throat
Need some advice! Been on cpap for about two weeks now. Sleeping great, feel better except for one problem, sore throat. My pressure is 9, they set my humidifier on 11. I raised it a little to see if it would help. Thought I would drown in the extra moisture!!! Any suggestions?
Re: sore throat
Sore throat or dry mouth complain from users with the nasal interface masks (leaving mouth uncovered) usually points to mouth breathing. Bad because when it occurs we lose therapy pressure out the mouth before it gets to the airway where it is needed.
Unfortunately your Escape offers no leak data to see just how bad the leak might be..if that is the problem. It only offers how many hours you use the machine. Nothing more. Nothing that helps you. There are machines that do offer data to help you see possible problem areas in the therapy.
Might want to read this as it explains things and your options. http://maskarrayed.wordpress.com/
If you are mouth breathing you need to find some way to keep mouth closed...chin strap, tape.. or use a full face mask which covers mouth and nose. With mouth being covered mouth breathing doesn't lose therapy air.

Re: sore throat
Just to let you know, I taught myself how to keep my mouth closed at night. I did it by trying the chin straps and I disliked using them so much I lost a lot of sleep remaining hypersensitive to opening my mouth. It's kind of like remaining hypersensitive when you have a sick child and need to be awake if they need you but also desperately needing sleep. Soon I slept with my mouth closed. And the more I did the easier it became to breath through my nose.
I made a conscious effort to breath through my nose during the day which helped my unconscious keep my mouth closed at night.
