Help reading CPAP compliance report
Re: Help reading CPAP compliance report
How do you get a report like this?
My priorities in life are God, family, and baseball. Starting in April, I do change the order around a bit.
Re: Help reading CPAP compliance report
You need ResScan 3.14 software. It can be downloaded free of charge. Look for any post by Uncle_Bob, look at his sig and you will find a link to the ResScan software download. You would also need a USB port on your 'puter or an inexpensive USB cable available wherever 'puters are sold.

You are showing S9 Autoset in your Profile. It should have a SD card in the back (like a camera SD card). If your computer has a SD slot you need nothing more than the SD card and the software. The person in this thread has a different machine so his reports are visually different but the ResScan software shows same general data.cherylann wrote:How do you get a report like this?
If your computer doesn't have an SD slot then you will need a generic SD reader adapter to plug into a USB port so the software can find the SD card.

Re: Help reading CPAP compliance report
I do have a SD slot. I will try it now.
I have learned more from you all in the 24 hours since I joined this forum than I have learned from my DME/RT in the four months I've been dealing with this.

If you run into trouble there is a tutorial video on how to navigate around in the software.cherylann wrote:I do have a SD slot. I will try it now.

If you have not seen it... this is the link (Minor version difference but the basics are unchanged).

I think once you get a handle on all this new information that you didn't know was available that it will help you understand things better and thus get a better handle on how to deal with your difficulties. You aren't alone and lot's of people here do understand and will offer to help you in any way they can.

Any landing you walk away from is a good one; if you don't break your airplane it's excellent.

Re: Help reading CPAP compliance report
Well, your compliance usage (number of hours per night) needs to be improved. But I am assuming that it has been improving over those first couple of weeks which would be fairly normal for many of us.
The rest of your data says yep, you're doing pretty darn good. We eventually want to see your Apnea Index 1.0 or under but that comes w/time too. I'm sure those first few couple of weeks didn't help your Apnex Index and that it is much better now. Keep in mind as I understand it these are the figures for the full 39 days of use, not just the last week's indexes.

Re: Help reading CPAP compliance report
Yes, that is what I thought - not too bad. So why do I feel so lousy? Why can't I sleep? Why do I wake up with major headache and gasping for breath and then it gets better for a few hours and starts getting worse as the day goes on? I am worse than I was before being diagnosed with the apnea - far worse.
But, I will keep at it - trying to keep the mask on longer every night. But, there is no serious sleep while wearing it.

Re: Help reading CPAP compliance report
By the way, if you don't get enough compliant nights, the insurance may stop paying for the machine. This usually means 4 hours a night for 70% of the nights over a certain time period.
The exact details vary between insurance carriers.
Using the machine when you're not sleeping does usually count toward the insurance compliance. You can't fool it by just turning the machine on without hooking up the mask to your face. It looks for breathing.

Re: Help reading CPAP compliance report
Yes, 4 hours (on average) is what the therapist told me I would need for the insurance company to pay. I have to turn in the card in a couple of weeks so I am really going to try to get the average up before then. I got the felling from the therapist that they would report whatever the insurance company wants to see. Which would be to their advantage to do so. If my insurance doesn't pay for it, I will return it.
I'm trying to figure out how the insurance works - I just got my EOBs today and they show three separate charges and also shows that my portion is zero, yet I paid the equipment place almost $200.

Re: Help reading CPAP compliance report
We can't expect to even begin feeling the "good numbers" until we sleep all night with the mask and machine on (7 plus hours hopefully) without frequent wake ups and even then it often takes quite a while (months and months for some).cherylann wrote:So why do I feel so lousy? Why can't I sleep?
If you can't sleep you need to try to identify exactly why you can't sleep.
Mask comfort? Nerves? Meds? Pain? Bed comfort? etc...
If I only sleep 5 or 6 hours I totally feel like crap the next day. Despite having wonderful numbers and I have been 100 % compliant for over 2 years. You gotta get good number of hours and good sleep (no wakeups) to have a chance of seeing the improvement you want.

Re: Help reading CPAP compliance report
Remember the old adage: Practice makes perfect?? That pretty much applies to PAP therapy. Very, very few of us take to PAP therapy overnight like a duck to water. For most of us it takes time to acclimate to PAP therapy. Once they find THE right pressure need for you there is still the KEY, the mask. THE right mask for you: comfortable and relatively leak free.
I would suggest that during the day or early evening hours you take your PAP into the family room or wherever, sit down in a comfy chair, don your mask, turn your PAP on and read a book, magazine; work a crossword, jigsaw puzzle; knit or crochet; watch TV; whatever takes your mind off of "I"ve gotta get to sleep" and allows you to get acclimated to having that mask on your face and that air blowing in your nose/face.
