What is an easy to get card reader machine?
What is an easy to get card reader machine?
I give up until my appt with the Doctor on Sept.13th, but is there a machine that the reader is easy to find?
Re: What is an easy to get card reader machine?
Yes. The new machine models in the ResMed S9 series and the PR System One series from Respironics. They use a SD card (like in a camera) and if your computer has a SD slot.. nothing else is needed. If computer does not have SD slot then a generic card reader to use to plug into USB port will work ($10 or so at Walmart)
ResMed S9 Elite or Autoset (avoid Escape or Escape Auto as they do have a SD card but don't collect full data)
Phillips Respironics System One Remstar Pro (straight CPAP) with CFlex + or the PR System One Auto CPAP (APAP) with AFlex. Full data available for both.
Avoid PR System One Remstar Plus with CFlex (placement of the word Plus is critical) not full data even though it also uses a SD card.. only gives hours of use.
These 2 brands have access to free software. Devilbiss makes a nice machine but the software is not free.
Avoid the M series machines from Respironics unless you stumble on a great deal. It does require a special card reader but that card reader is still sold.. US suppliers..cheapest I have seen is $40. Best thing if at all possible is to get the very latest but if you could get your hands on M series Pro or APAP..full data and the card reader isn't horribly expensive.

Re: What is an easy to get card reader machine?
All the modern, up-to-date machines will use standard SD cards (like you use in a camera) that can be read easily by the SD slot in your laptop or printer. Some computers may not have a SD card slot in which case an inexpensive card reader available anywhere for about $10 can be attached via USB.
Your machine is an older model and had a proprietary card and reader. ResMed's newest machine, the S9 series uses the standard SD card.
If possible, lobby hard for an updated machine, but in doing so, be SURE it is a fully data capable machine and not just a new machine that won't give you efficacy data. The S9 Auto Set or Elite are fully data capable as is my machine listed below. There are others as well.... I believe Rested Gal has a list. Maybe someone has the link to that handy....I do not.
EDIT: To clarify Pugsy's comment above about DeVilbiss's software. Yes, it does cost about $140, but that plus the cost of the machine is still less than the machine only on the other brands mentioned.

Yes, that blue eyed beauty is my cat! He is a seal point, bi-color Ragdoll. I adopted him in '08 from folks who could no longer care for him. He is a joy and makes me smile each and every day.
Re: What is an easy to get card reader machine?
My doctor is thinking of maybe putting me on a Bi-pap, what would be a good one ..as in small, light weight, & of course easy to get all the data stuff for? At least I will be armed with better info.
Thank you
Thank you
Re: What is an easy to get card reader machine?
Same brands as mentioned above, except bi-level models instead of CPAP models., i.e.
Resmed S9 VPAP Auto
PR SystemOne BPAP Auto
Resmed S9 VPAP
PR System One BPAP Pro
You do NOT want a Resmed w/Escape in the model name nor do you want a RP S1 w/Plus in the model name. AND you do NOT want the Resmed Escape Auto nor the PR SystemOne Auto IQ.
