New CPAP device?
New CPAP device?
Has anybody heard or seen anything like that? I just read it in an article in a Greek newspaper but cannot find it anywhere on the net. They refer to it as "n-EPAP valves"

Re: New CPAP device?
Look for "provent." Interesting idea, but the pressure drops to zero when you inhale. It's also a disposable device, so you have to buy a new pair every night. It ends up being expensive.geopal wrote:Has anybody heard or seen anything like that? I just read it in an article in a Greek newspaper but cannot find it anywhere on the net. The consensus around here seems to be that we're skeptical. It's certainly not an replacement for CPAP for most people.

Looks like just another restriction in nasal pathway.

Provent..
Discussed a bit here at the forum.

I don't know if anyone here has actually used them. I saw something on TV about it the other day. Costs about $60 a month and at best they say only a 50% reduction in events. Might be okay if someone only had a really mild AHI to start with but for those of us with over 15 AHI in our sleep studies ...50% wouldn't be nearly good enough to expect to see much improvement in symptoms.
Still yet for someone who just absolutely cannot use cpap mask and machine... better than nothing.
Looks awful to me. Works by making it hard to exhale..that's just what I want to do..

Re: New CPAP device?
Dr. Rapoport talked about them in a video. They work for some people regardless of the seriousness of the apnea. He said they are uncomfortable, but just breathe through your mouth if you find exhalation hard and when you fall asleep you will start breathing through the nose. If you are one of the people they work for, compliance is good. On their web page is the paperwork to get them- they do require a prescription and perhaps an exam to see if you are a candidate. You can get a 10 night sample supply. I believe the cost is closer to $125/monthly. As suggested do a search on the forum for Provent. There is a lot of discussion.

Re: New CPAP device?
looks interesting as a solution for some cpap users, but as you said there is no proven success of the products... Havent seen it in Europe yet to get any user feedback! Thanks anyway lads
Re: New CPAP device?
Then CPAP is actually cheaper. Aside from being less bulky and not needing electricity, I don't see the up side.Mary Z wrote:I believe the cost is closer to $125/monthly.

Re: New CPAP device?
Could very well be that much. I was just quoting what was mentioned in the news clip. It was about a woman who could not deal with the machine and mask and Provent gave her the "miracle". It was not an info commercial. Instead a little news clip on something like the Today or Good Morning show but in the evening. I don't remember which.Mary Z wrote: I believe the cost is closer to $125/monthly

Eleven pages of posts going back to 2011. In three years has anyone ever reported that Provent effectively replaced CPAP for them?
Or is it like Pugsy says, only "better than nothing"?

I'd like to try some, for short term use while travelling.
You should be able to find info under "Provent".
I doubt they'll provide a lot of pressure, but it all helps.
The key to cost is re-use, to be successful they'll have to address that.
I'd clean nose before use, and look into brush-on adhesive as used to attach theatrical masks/prothesis.
