So, finally a visit to the sleep study consultant

Post by Marky » Mon Aug 29, 2011 11:35 am

Well, I have finally got an appointment to see the sleep specialist.

I have Sarcoidosis and OSA.

I did a sleep study last September, and was just given an appointment with a "technician" who gave me a machine and since then about 9 different masks.
After making a nuisance and ringing non stop (always an answer phone) I finally have an appointment.

I have no idea what any of the results from the sleep study (at home with a machine and wires galore)

Obviously Ill ask what I am suffering from.
I'll ask why all the Full Face masks leak on the bridge of my nose blowing into my eyes and waking me. (the nasal pillows leak...not as much but I mouth breathe quite often "I THINK!"

Anyone give any advice as to what else I should ask/find out?

You need to try a Hybrid (NOT the liberty by resmed) It totally solved that problem for me. After all not all shoes fit all people.

To bad you got stuck with an "escape" you may want to ask why they sold you a machine that does not give you the data to trace your therapy.

I'm with Blackspinner, I use the Hybrid too and I just love it. i can wear my glasses if I want as there is nothing above my nose to interfere. I can breath thru my nose and my mouth without a large mask driving me nuts all night.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

I didnt buy the machine....its just what I was given on the NHS.

I have the Hybrid mask. but it leaks around my mouth when on my side. ( I have an old VW Camper Van that I like to go off wandering in. It wont run the humidifier, the think just restarts......but it does run the escape by itself, and I can use the Hybrid without the humidifier)

The pillows just need to be a little longer for me....I get the nose right and the mouth pops at the bottom or vice versa.

You are right about the hybrid. Most of us use an extra strap across the pillows (I use lingerie elastic - some use ladies tights) it doesn't need to be very tight, just holds the pillows in place.
Also when on your side have the mask hanging over the edge of the pillow. Some people use a foam pillow and cut a chunk out of it for the mask.

Perhaps its just the way a male mind works..............But I cant see any configuration that would make that work.

................That wouldnt leave me open to the kind of banter that would make a grown man cry in my local pub!
Do you mean tights like a bank robber?
I start off hanging over the pillow, but I toss and turn all night....and end up with the tube wrapped around me etc.... Id have to be strapped to the bed to keep still. Knicker elastic, tights and strapped down, just seems to me that this Sleep apnea isnt going in the direction I hoped!
SCARED TO TRY IT IN-CASE I LIKE IT!!!!
