Reliable Power Adapters ???

Post by lovetoyou » Sun Aug 28, 2011 11:58 pm

Hello,
We are vacationing in Tahiti next month and I need to purchase an adapter for my Resmed S8 Autoset II. I've seen several products on line, but have been discouraged by negative product reviews. My dream vacation will become a real nightmare if I can't use my CPAP because the adapter fails/blows a fuse/is not made for continuous use...etc.
Does anyone have experience with travel adapters and/or any recommendations? Thank You. Deb

Are you looking for voltage adapters or plug adapters? If the former, I don't think you need it. Many CPAPs these days come with power supplies that will switch between 110v and 220v and work with 50/60cycles. I looked at the specs, and if they are correct, yours seems to be one of them:

•Electrical Requirements 100 - 240 V, 50/60 Hz; 110 V, 400 Hz; 2.5A <140 VA (110W)(maximum power consumption). Instantaneous peak power consumption <340VA

Of course, there probably are different flavors of your machine; and to be sure you need to look on the bottom of your machine, label on the power adapter (if that is separate), etc. If in doubt, call the manufacturer.

As for a plug adapter, they are just connectors, with very little to go wrong. I generally travel with a collection of different ones.

I just need a plug adapter...the resmed machines have an internal power adapter that automatically adjusts to 220 volts.

Moresleep, your reply has got me thinking, I'm was getting confused about what i need, and concerned by what i was reading online. With a simple plug adapter that allows me to plug in my machine...i probably wouldn't encounter the problems i was reading about!? Does that hold true for extension cords? Or do i have to purchase something special to handle a different voltage? Thanks for your help!

If this is correct, the best solution would be a power cord that goes from the 2 pin plug on the back of the S8 to the correct plug for Tahiti. I presume that's how people in Tahiti use an S8 machine. I don't know where you'd find one.
