Quattro FX on Friday :)

Post by Alshain » Wed Aug 24, 2011 12:20 pm

Finally got approval from the doctor to change masks (I hate this thing). Hope the FX works better.

I do have a question. Is it typical for a doctor to restrict masks without approval or is that not very common?

I've not heard of this happening at all. My doctor didn't specify anything, other than to list the mask used in the sleep study. My DME started me off with that mask, then switched me to another, and gave me a third as a backup. No need to consult the doctor for anything. The only restriction I ran into with either my doctor or my DME was that my DME required my doctor to specify APAP before they would give me one. My doctor didn't care, so she rewrote my prescription and I got my APAP.

Can you ask your primary care doctor to write you a more generic prescription?

I haven't asked specifically... but based on what the DME told me (both of them I've been with) this is done intentionally on this specific doctors order.

It is not common for a doctor to be so specific on mask models. Most of the time it is "mask of patient choice" or something very generic like cpap machine, heated humidity and any needed cpap supplies.

During my experimenting phase I bet I tried 10 masks.. I would sure hate have had to run each one through the doctor for approval. They would have got real tired of me really fast..

Oh! hey another question. Does the padacheek original fit with this mask. I'm about to make an order for the liner, I thought I might get the strap liner too.
EDIT: Also, if I ordered 2 pair, would it fit on both upper and lower straps?

I have zero experience with any FFM but you can email Karen at Padacheek and ask her just to make sure what will be interchangeable, if any. She will let you know straight away.

If you don't like the Quattro I believe it is backed by the manufacturer's 30 day warranty - ask your DME. I too went through many masks to find the one that works for me and find it odd the doctor states a preference. I'd ask the doctor what aspect of your report prompts the use of a particular mask and if there was non would the Dr. please rewrite the prescription to be patient preference or whatever is the proper wording so you can get whichever mask helps you be most complaint and receive the best therapy.

To answer your question, NO.
Padacheek makes a different liner just for QFX

I don't see one. Not talking about the cushion liner. I'm talking bout the headgear liner.

I have the quatro fx ffm and this liner works for me. http://www.padacheek.com/PAC_Maskliners.html
This works great on the bottom straps. http://www.padacheek.com/PAC_Original.html I never felt a need for it on the top straps. The bottom strap clips
leave a mark on my face without the bottom strap.

Ok, I will try with just bottom straps then. Think I'll spend the extra $$ an get the silk. I noticed they do have a temple padacheek that is an inch shorter but I can always make another order if I think I need it.

Well, I already ordered, but after the fact (figures) I realized what Quattro FX users want is the Hybrid/Liberty head gear pad. It's basically the same style, over the ear and halo in the back.

Well after my first night, I kinda like it. It feels a little tight around the nose. I'm not sure I'm putting it on right, if I follow directions it leaks and feels too tight. But if I put up higher on the bridge of the nose it seems to work ok.
