Hi. Since starting back on my CPAP machine (about 1 full week) I have been waking up with terrible headaches...can someone explain this to me.
Also, can a CPAP hurt if you do not have sleep apnea (I do just curious)
thanks

Terrible Headaches
You said you "just started back on CPAP". How long has it been since you were titrated? How long have you been off the machine? Perhaps your pressure requirements have changed drastically.

If a person who didn't have sleep apnea used a CPAP machine, I don't think it would harm them at all. Just my opinion. Also, can a CPAP hurt if you do not have sleep apnea (I do just curious)
Of course, the initial sleep disruptions from dealing with leaky face-gouging masks, rainout, exhaling against pressure, hose getting in the way, etc., might make the non-apneac person feel as worn out the next day as if he/she really had a sleep disorder! Just like the "I feel worse than before CPAP! Can't sleep at ALL now!" that some of us go through even though the cpap is giving effective treatment at keeping the throat open.
It can be very difficult for most people to get all the pieces of the puzzle placed right (mask being the biggest stumbling block) and be comfortable enough to sleep with all this stuff on.
What kind of mask are you using? Could it be leaking while you are asleep?
You didn't really say why you were off of CPAP and back on it again. If it has been awhile, could you need to be retitrated?
I had severe headaches, the longest being 6 days straight before CPAP, and now only occasionally. When I do have one, I find that my mask usually has been leaking. Starting getting 2 or 3 a week again, and found I needed to have my pressure upped a few notches. That was about a month ago, and have only had one since then.

thanks all. I went off the CPAP because it was choking me to death...I'd wake up in the middle of the night and could not breathe so I had the surgerys and aftger two sleep studies I was deemed cured...well for the past 4 or so years I've been waking up every hr on the hr and decided to give it a try again (I had lost quite a bit of weight and put it back on) so I am assuming the Apnea is back. I have been much better since posting this, the headaches have passed, I'm not sure what was causing them...I wake up occasionally with one but nothing like it was when I originally posted this. I am using the tape on my mouth now to keep my jaw from dropping...does anybody know of any device that I can wear (the tape is causing me to break out)

You might try a FF Mask, I started with mine and rode it every night until I broke it. (like a horse) It did break really, but I patched it, and am still riding it every night.
