However when you are sick is when you need proper sleep and O2 the most.
Just turn up the humidity. Last year when I had pneumonia I wore my cpap even during the day because it made breathing so much easier. It also made the pneumonia much shorter and less intense.

I guess that makes sense but I am always on O2 anyway with the copd problem. They did some x-rays this morning and the pulmonologist called this afternoon to let me know that I had mild bronchitis again. I asked him again about using cpap and he thought it might make matters worse and advised that I stay off for now. I asked him why they spoke intubating me (maybe a little similar) when they hospitalized me in May and he said that it would have been a last resort but they would have gave me an anesthesia for it. I sure don’t want to take a chance of this turning into pneumonia again, I hate being in the hospital so I guess at least for tonight I will have to turn the O2 up some more and see what happens.

Roger.

3 days in a row is what they mean; it seems 'addictive' in that it stops congestion like magic, so people keep using it but it then causes rebound congestion which is often worse than the original congestion for many. it works but boy it bites! Friend of mine got hooked using it and it took about 6 months to get off it, with her having to use mutilpe times/day saline rinses, daily nasal steroid sprays, daily antihistamines.

Now, all that said, this is how I used it when I got really sick...got 5 days of relief.
Night 1: 1 spray Afrin in both nosrtils
Night 2: Pick a nostril, 1 spray Afrin (I get the 12-hr moisuring kind)
Night 3: Same nostril, 1 spray Afrin
Night 4: Other nostril, 1 spray Afrin
Night 5: Use same nostril as night 4, 1 spray Afrin
Night 6: No more Afrin

I believe that's "nasaline." I use "SinusRinse" by Neilmed. Similar idea, I believe.

Wow, CPAP really helped! Turned up the humidifier a bit too.

I had pneumonia last month. Wearing the mask with humidity helped. I turned it up some. It was a struggle to have pneumonia and have the back pressure on the machine. I tossed and turned more but got through it. I hope you feel better soon.

Just how can breathing warm humid filtered air not help? They sell steam humidifiers especially for use with colds, flus, pneumonia, bronchitis and such.

I am over it now (almost) and have returned to using my cpap. I asked why I should not use it when at the peak of the infection and he said that the pressure could be counterproductive and did not want to take a chance with my resistance down. Seems like I took enough antibiotics to stock a drugstore but that is the usual treatment.

I think for a regular cold I might try it and see myself how it works. I was wondering if anyone has put some Vicks in the reservoir to help ease breathing?

Bad idea!!! BAD DOG!!! BAD DOG!!!

That would probably be way too intense. It might have other problems, too. A number of people have put various kinds of scent holders by the air intake and put scents or stuff on it. Start with VERY small doses if you do it.

Our host sells some of these things. https://www.cpap.com/cpap-comfort-clean ... herapy.php

Me, I'm paranoid about putting anything extra into the air intake of my machine.
