I did mention in one of my posts that nobody in my house smokes cigarettes

Well, it's relevant to the notion that you can't just ask them to be considerate of you and smoke outside the apartment. They obviously aren't going to do that.

Why don't you find out if there's a true NEED for oxygen? Rested Gal had a good point that you could ask your doctor to order an oximeter and see how you do on the machine without oxygen vs. on it. If there is a need, you can see that you can't get agreement here on whether there's a safety issue. You can ask more people, and maybe specialists (fire department? the people who supply the oxygen?). If there is a danger, it doesn't sound like you can ask your roommates to quit their habits (or smoke outside, let's be realistic), so you'd have to think about whether you want to continue to live there. But first things first--do you really need the oxygen? That's where I would start with all this, while being cautious, of course.

You can also get a recording oximeter of your own for less than $100 from pulseoxstore.com.

Be sure to get one of the "downloadable" ones. I like my CMS-50D+. (Note the "PLUS". The 50D without the plus doesn't record.)

Are you geek enough to load software and tinker a little? The Chinese software isn't terribly user friendly.

As a DME provider, we recommend 4 feet.
Thats 4 feet from a gas stove, firplace, candles, incense, cigarettes...etc.

For the fire hazard, the distance may be much shorter than it is for the passive smoke hazard to yourself and others.
You may need to move out, if these selfish animals can't deal with such a minor concession as only smoking outside.

Whats a safe smoking distance from an Oxygen Concentrator?
At least on my display, the thread is now 32.5 feet long.

Shouldn't that be a safe enough distance?

I don't think it would be *safe* in a legal sense, to do this kind of smoking outside, unless it's far away from public view in someplace like a wooded area.

I'm sure his roommates will really appreciate the home visits from his RT...
