I also suspect a lot of sleep centers recruit just anyone they can to run sleep studies, give them just enough training to pass certification and sit back and cash the checks. You should read some of the complaints on binarysleep about unqualified technicians.

Actual schooling and testing requirements have been increasing over time. It varies from state to state and sleep center to sleep center. There are various ways of getting around some of the requirements. It's discussed quite a bit on the binarysleep board.
My tech was extremely talkative for some reason. I just sat and listened as she taped her various torture devices to my body. I thought she would be well paid for this type of position but apparently she can barely afford a rented apartment that is 45 minutes outside of Seattle and has to work a second day job to make ends meet and support herself and her son. I was shocked. I would have expected this kind of work to be well paid especially considering they billed my insurance $1800 for the night!

My tech had slppe apnea so she was very helpful in answering questions. I asked her what machine she used, she told me she didn't need one any more cause she lost weight. She said though that not everyone who looses weight can get off the cpap.

Yep. The techs I have talked with were VERY careful not to discuss data or therapy or anything. They had clearly been told the limits of their discourse with patients and weren't about to run afoul of Management.

Re: remuneration, the first one told me he was just back from surfing all afternoon. He was sunburned and his eyes were bloodshot from the sun and salt. He was making chit-chat as he was wiring me up and learned that I work in drug research. He immediately started pummeling me with questions about all the wonderful new "cures" that are being discovered virtually every day for that miracle-drug . . .Cannabis.

I think we have the same techs! I had no idea they couldn't discuss data or therapy. It would have been easier if they had just told me that... then I wouldn't have expected it.

Well, per my internist, I made an appointment with the sleep specialist - Sept. 29th - they sure must be in demand. Internist said I should have been told to make an appointment with the sleep specialist when I had the sleep study.

1.You posted that you don't recommend posters from here to post there.
2. You posted in the past that you're not impressed with Ted's post about ASV from 2009

So what's the diff when or where you posted these posts?

. . . May be that the OP is confused . . .
It is my personal opinion that YOU might be a bit confused YOURSELF, since it appears to me that you may have missed RG's point completely in correcting your misleading wording.

If you don't mind, I'll try to walk you through it.

RG reposted her statement from a while back that she would not post at the pro site. I agree. Good point. Glad she made that point, since some newbies here might be tempted from the answers in this thread to post patient-oriented questions over there, thinking that doing so would be a perfectly acceptable thing to do--newbies who would never dream of doing something some might consider rude. I am glad RG is so helpful to everyone in such matters. (On a side note, Sleepguide.com has a few pros and doesn't mind patient questions. So does this site. But the other site, not so much.)

But then YOUR post in this thread clumsily implied that she herself had posted at the site that she had just said that she never posted at and would not post at, whether it was your intention to imply that or not.

I am glad she corrected that misimpression.

And her confusion as to WTT (what the tech) the purpose of your post was here is one I share.

I am not asking you to explain it.

I AM, however, asking that you be careful what you may inadvertently imply about such highly-respected posters on this site, if you don't mind that suggestion.

If the misstatement that implied that misimpression was an accident, an apology would be appropriate, in my opinion. If it was not an accident, then it might be appropriate to post at forums elsewhere.

And just so you know, deleting harmless stuff from old posts in old threads just confuses everyone later. It is not considered good form in this forum to do so. It is better to be like Dan Quayle, and to stand by all the misstatements that we make, when they are honest mistakes. That way later readers will know exactly what we are apologizing for.

Just my opinions.

In an attempt to like totally jack this thread, here's an ASV with a successful attack on CompSAS (the thing that Ted has never seen). Of note is the undulating pCO2 (measured via TcpCO2) in the first graph, the gentle supplementation of the resuscitive phase of breathing (to avoid overshoot and prevent the pCO2 "troughs") in the second graph, then finally normalization of breathing in the third graph:

Although upon further reflection, perhaps this would better qualify as a "JackBack".

OK, gotta go.

The Earth's driving through the "Perseids" tonite, and with any luck, maybe we'll have an ELE.

I'd take a photo and post it, but when you think about, what's the point.

NotMuffy , it's interesting post. I need to spend more time on it.

As to jnk's post including: "It is my personal opinion that YOU might be a bit confused YOURSELF, since it appears to me that you may have missed RG's point completely in correcting your misleading wording"

I know it that I do fine without others interfering in my posts and lecturing me how and what to post to others. Besides, I got a wife to micro manage me.

As to the BinarySleep forum, I been visiting there often and like their conversation. I also might join them if they accept me.

avi, given that you have edited out the content of quite a few of your previous posts in other threads when you had second thoughts, I hope you'll decide (the sooner the better) to edit out what you just now posted -- those snide insults toward Jeff (jnk) who happens to be one of the most helpful members of this forum.

The GOOD news is that I neither need nor want to know!
