Hi all, I've been using my CPAP for the last four weeks and I have a few questions.
For many, many years, I've had trouble sleeping. I would wake throughout the night, I was tired all day and could fall asleep on command, never felt rested, always very foggy and in a daze, felt mentally tired, etc. I guess since I'm not overweight, my doctors never thought a sleep study was important.
Finally I took a sleep study and they diagnosed me with sleep apenea. I got my CPAP just over four weeks and ago and have used it every time I've fallen asleep (including any naps). My pressure setting is 14 cm H2O.
After four weeks using the CPAP, I wouldn't say I feel better, I just feel different. My mind is much-much clearer throughout the day. My only complaint is that now I feel physically tired (not mentally tired like I used to). It's like I could sleep all day. In fact on Sundays, I easily sleep 12 hours. I have a follow-up with my sleep doctor in a few weeks.
Is my response normal? Do people want to sleep more when they start using a cpap?
Thanks for your time. Henry
4th Week with CPAP & Questions

What machine? Does it have any data available to check to see if you are having optimal therapy?

While some people are very lucky and see marked improvement almost immediately they are really in the minority. Most of us take much longer. One month is really quite soon.
I usually suggest that people who aren't seeing the improvements that they want, first look at their data to make sure that the therapy is optimal. Good numbers at least on paper. Then start looking at other possible causes for their symptoms. There are any number of reasons to feel fatigue that can be unrelated to sleep apnea and even the best of numbers can't fix. But we have to start somewhere and making sure therapy is optimal should be the first step.
