Hey everyone,
So, I just got my CPAP machine about two weeks ago. I was surprised to find out that I had OSA, since I'm a 20-year-old who's in pretty good shape.
I really never had trouble falling asleep and staying asleep after the first two nights. I've been consistently sleeping through the entire night, with no interruptions that I can remember.
But, my symptoms don't seem to have gone away, or even improved. It's still a huge chore for me to get out of bed, I would likely sleep 15-16 hours per night if I didn't set an alarm, and I still feel pretty sleepy in the daytime, especially after I drive (which...is sort of a problem). Could it be that my pressure was set too low (I'm only on 7), or will it take a bit longer before I start noticing improvement? Thanks for your help!
Don't feel better after two weeks...is this normal?

What machine do you use? What mask?
Please take the time to register and add your equipment to your profile.
Here's how. wiki/index.php/Registering_Equipment_in_User_Profile
Then members can better offer ideas as to what choices you may have. Your pressure may not be optimal. You may be leaking therapy. It may just take some time to see improvement. There is no certain set time table when we see marked improvement.

Sorry for not mentioning that! I'll add it to my user profile in a second, but for the purposes of this thread, I'll list everything here:
CPAP: Philips SystemOne REMStar Plus with C-Flex
Mask: Quattro FX Full Face-Mask (Small) w/ Headgear
Humidifier: Not quite sure, to be honest; I don't seem to have any documentation that gives me a name. =\
Software: I'm not actively using any software.

It takes some of us longer than others to feel better. You may have some sleep debt to make up even if you feel you were sleeping through the night before CPAP. Two weeks is not very long. If after a month I didn't feel better I would have my data downloaded and checked by my doc. In the meantime can you check your AHI and AI as well as leak yourself? AHI should be less than 5. Being in good shape has nothing to do with the state of your airway, unfortunately. It's still a plus in terms of your health.

Re: Don't feel better after two weeks...is this normal?
I can tell you I am experiencing similar things after 2 weeks of CPAP therapy. I notice small, incremental changes for the better but not huge changes. I talked to my doctor yesterday and he said this can be normal. I do have data collected and my numbers are looking great, so no changes to be made right now. I hope you figure it out and feel better real soon, but it just may be that you and I are some of the people who won't get an overnight miracle.

Unfortunately the machine you show is not a full data capable machine. Software won't help you.Apocryphal297 wrote:Software: I'm not actively using any software
While it does have a SD card the only data that it gathers on that card is compliance hours of use. The hours of use are used to prove compliance to satisfy insurance requirements. It will not show if you are having leaks that might impair therapy. It will not show events to have any idea if the pressure is even adequately treating the events. You have only how you feel to go on.
Was your machine supplied by a DME through your insurance? It may not be too late to get a machine that will give you full data.

You're not alone, for some reason there are many of us, myself included, who may have expected a big difference within the first few days but didn't. It is just taking time. I've been on for about 8 weeks and am still not as well as I thought I'd be, though I am far better than where I was. Hang in there and stay committed to your therapy and keep in touch with your doctors as well as this webpage. You'll pick up many things here that will help improve your therapy.
Thinking of quitting CPAP?
No problem, here's the first thing to do when you quit:
Advanced funeral planning. When you give up CPAP, you'll probably need it.
