NCPAP drooling
NCPAP drooling
Just got NCPAP. from habit still sleeping on my side. Wakeup now and then with heavy drooling. Wonder if I need a mask and full CPAP which I didn't like during sleep test. Or maybe chin strap? suggestions?
Re: NCPAP drooling
You more than likely need a full face mask if you are opening your mouth drooling. Do a search on drooling and you will read lots of tips that others have tried.

Re: NCPAP drooling
I have nasal pillows and have been using CPAP for 11 nights now. Very new, but I am doing well with chin strap. I can imagine I would have my mouth open all night if it were not for the chin strap. Have you been using one?

Re: NCPAP drooling
I'm not sure what an NCPAP is. If you are using nasal pillows, you'll want either to find a way to keep your mouth shut or to get a full-face mask. There's tons of information on this site about how to keep one's mouth shut when using nasal pillows.
If you get a full-face mask, you will still probably drool. Once a drooler, always a drooler. I also drool a lot. I tell my husband I can't help it with such a stud muffin around. I use a full-face mask b/c I breathe through my mouth. Sleep on my side. I found it very annoying when the drool would pool in the bottom corner of the mask and tickle my face. It would wake me up! Here's what I did:
1) Bought some Whippity Wipes from the regular grocery store. You could use any material that wicks away moisture. Fleece would probably be another good option.
2) Washed and dried them when I got them home to reduce any residual pesticides and remove the "store smell."
3) Cut two 1" X 2" rectangles.
4) Folded them in half, lengthwise, so I have two folded 1/2" X 2" pieces.
5) Put a piece of masking tape on the end of each one.
6) Taped them at an angle to the outside of the bottom corners of the mask.
7) When putting on the mask, tucked the untaped ends inside the mask.
It worked like a charm! When I drooled, the material would wick the moisture away from my skin, and the air coming into the mask would dry it quickly. I made a week's worth of these rectangles and used a fresh pair each night. Once a week I washed the bunch when I washed the rest of my equipment.
Let me know if you would like me to attach pictures of the process of making them, for clarification.
Good luck!
