full face mask people; help!

Post by synonymous » Fri Jul 29, 2011 7:13 am

My DME brought 2 sizes for me to try. I had tried the smaller one but noticed that if my mouth dropped below a certain point it would leak. I spent the night wearing the larger mask but woke up now and again to leaks that only seemed to go away if I would lie on my back. Anyways, during a nap wearing the mask today I experienced one of my apneas that would happen if I had no mask: I would feel a thud in my head, try to move my body unable to then slowly get it moving. This never happened with the nasal pillow. The reason for going full face mask was because sometimes I sleep with my mouth open and sometimes I have a stuffed nose. My question is; are some people just better off with nasal pillows? I felt more 'direct' pressure with the nasal pillow whereas with a fullface mask I'm not feeling any real pressure...is this normal? Is it OK to go back and forth between the 2 types? I've got 3 masks at home now, the nasal and 2 fullface masks. I'm thinking about going with the nasal and only using the fullface mask on days my nose is out of whack....is this OK? What have your experiences been? I need a good nights sleep tonight especially because of a long day tomorrow. I can work on mask leaks during the week next week. I haven't checked the data. I'm sick right now with cellulitus....not happy. Anyways, some advice would be much appreciated.

Morning
Yes you can use your nasal mask and just keep a ffm for when you are conjested......alot of the folks here do exactly that. But, there is a mask thats the best of both worlds...in my humble opinion that is...its the Respcare/Innomed Hybrid. Has nasal pillows PLUS a mouth covering and allows you to breath with either, the same as any other full face mask. Take a look at the reviews, etc at cpap.com and see what you think.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

Try the RespCare Hybrid Universal FFM, comfort of pillows and security of not losing therapy air when mouth breathing. Quite a few of us here wear it.
